I, like others here, was slightly dissapointed after watching this. The first half was solid comedy gold while the middle and end seemed disjointed, random and sort of unnceccessary at times. I will say this is probably the second best love story this year after Wall-E. Rogen and Franco have really great chemistry and the bromance that develops between them was genuine, touching and funny as hell. Also why can't Franco be this good in the other projects he's been in. I really didn't think the guy had any acting ability and then all of a sudden he hits a home run in this, who'da thunk it? All in all not as good as SB, KU, 40YOV, FSM but worth watching none-the-less.

Grade B/B-

Hilarious, the movie had me cracking up through out. It's not at all a stoner's comedy (I'm no stoner and at 10:30 at night I was laughing more than 90% of the crowd), as Loyal mentioned it can be looked at more as a action/comedy. Rogan, Franco, and McBride were all great (epic fight scene), there was SO many little moments that had me busting up that I just can't remember them all but a subtle moment that I don't think anyone else got at the theater was when McBride drove off and told Rogan "Legends never die, I'll tell your story", quoting Sandlot gets major points in my book.

Anyways, I've realized I'm much more into the bit more over the top Apatow group films, I don't even see a comparison between the amount of funny in Superbad and Express compared to say Knocked Up and Sarah Marshall.

Great film, A-

It was disappointing compared to stuff like 40YOV, Knocked Up, and Superbad. It's funny and does the action cheese well, but it was missing the gut-busting, talk-about-it scene. Franco's actually really good in his role, both funny and acting wise. The dude that keep coming back from the dead was the biggest surprise (humor wise). It's alright, but not as funny as Step Brothers.

All around not a bad movie. It had its scenes where it was hilarious, but I felt like a lot more could have been added. Plus some better editing. James Franco was of course great, but I actually was more impressed by Danny McBride (his whole aerodynamic bit, LOL). And since it played up the action so much in the trailers, I was let down. The beginning was pitch-perfect I have to say.

Freakin' hilarious. One hell of a ride from start to finish. Absolutely loved it. It may not be Superbad, but it's still great.
This film also features one of the best lines in a movie....

Yep. That's why I didn't laugh at that scene at all.

To be fair, I don't think either movie stole form the other. H&K wrapped in March of 2007. Pineapple Express was two months later in May. I highly doubt Apatow and gang decided to go back and reshoot new footage to blatantly steal from H&K. It most likely just a coincidence and nothing more.

Might just be coincidence. But it is possible they stole it though.

What would be the point of that?? It wasn't even that funny of a joke. Just two movies that happen to have the same situation.

I don't think they did, I'm just saying it's not impossible.

I highly doubt they stole it because they could have not changed the whole film within a month..

Because of that scene, they use pay-phones several times....I don't think they would go through so much trouble.

The movie was, to borrow a word from trixster, a big, fat disappointment. I found the film a tedious, and rather unpleasant, sit.

Green's answer to the question of how to veer wildly from genre to genre is to play everything. no matter the stakes, the same way. This is not a bad solution, I suppose, but the individual parts are lacking enough that it doesn't matter.

I didn't find the movie that funny. Maybe it's because i've never done drugs nor have I been near people who were drugged. I think I only laughed at the police car chase scene. I was expecting lot more. Step Brothers was a lot better.

I think it was pretty damn funny. I mean obviously the lavish circumstance under which i enjoyed the movie helped a great deal, but i think in itself it was pretty fucking good.

funny movie but I don't get why Apatow movies have to have an underlying tone of homophobic jokes. I get he wants to go for the laughs and most of it is not really offensive, but it's that subtlety that kind rubs me the wrong way.

But enjoyable nonetheless. B

Homophobic?!?

I would describe PE as 100% homophilic!!!

(Though I'm not sure which way of rubbing you consider "wrong"...)

5/10 -> C-

Fun at times, but most of the intended laughs fall flat. Seth Rogen wasn't a great lead really, most of the movie I was trying to get used to him. Franco was good.

Best comedy of the year. There were just too many downright hiLarious moments/Lines to mention, it never stops. It was funny, in a way that The Simpsons Movie made me Laugh (can't think of a better comparison). Though, I suspect it won't be as enjoyabLe by second viewing unLike Knocked Up, or Superbad which was better the second time.

movies like this would have only been a dream five years ago. I love what Apatow is doing to the comedy world.
