ROGUE - 8/10 (B+)

The best killer croc movie I've seen (not like the bar is set very high). It was thrilling and the scenery was gorgeous. It's a shame that crap like PRIMEVAL was able to secure a wide theatrical release and that this was dumped into a practically non-existent limited release. This deserved wider exposure.

Post Re: Rogue
So Blockbuster Video had a deal where you purchase 2 movies for 20 bucks and ROGUE: The UnRated Edition was there, so I bought it.. Now, we've seen our share of the killer crocodile or alligator movies in the form of LAKE PLACID and it's goddawful sequel with a number 2 in front of it, PRIMEVAL that showed us that a 30 foot crocidile could run as fast as a cheetah chasing Orlando Jones and now comes ROGUE which for a while there, was put on and off the backburner and only released in select theatres for a short time.. Basically, the movie opens up showing a wide sweep of the Northern Territory of Australia with Indian music chanting in the background and suddenly, we come across some water buffalo hesistant to drink out of this lake for fear of being mauled by Saltwater Crocs, the largest crocs on our planet.. Turns out, the water buffalo barely gets it's mouth close to the water and BAM!! A saltwater croc pulls him in by his mouth and mauls him(off camera of course)..

After that, we see a large boat carrying tourists on a tour of the outback when a very large shadow slams into their boat causing it to practically sink before the tour guide slams the boat onshore stranding everyone of them without suitable radio contact.. Much of this movie trys to capture the feeling of JAWS where what you don't see scares you the most.. Turns out that the director of this movie who also directed the awful HIGH TENSION has decided to make his killer croc more like a serial killer type that basically is so smart, he has his own lair with a shitload of bones lying around.. The 2 things I didn't care about in this movie are:

A: The size of the crocidile.. The poster suggested that when you see this thing, it's abnormally large and that's cool cause when I think of the name ROGUE, I'm thinking of maybe a croc about 40 foot long that no one knew existed.. How cool would it have been to see a 40 foot croc do some damage?? Instead, we get a saltwater croc about 20-25 foot long.. Guess Greg McClean was aiming for more realism in this and he does do a good job at that for the most part..

B: The ending and how the croc met it's demise..
Spoiler: show
So the so called hero of the movie managed to stumble across this saltwater crocs lair after everyone pretty well got munched.. As he's poking around the crocs lair, the croc comes back trapping our hero in it's lair.. Just about the point where the hero is gonna bite the big one, he pins himself up against a rock face wall, takes a 10-12 foot piece of tree that just happens to have a sharp speer end on it and speers the crocodile as he charges at the guy and in the process, he slices the inside of the croc open with this piece of tree causing the croc to die.. Does anyone have any idea how tough the skin, the hide is on a saltwater crocodile or any croc for that matter?? No way would a tree trunk with a sharp end kill something of this size that quick..

Overall, it was a HELL of alot better than PRIMEVAL, but still not as good as the 1st LAKE PLACID so I gave ROGUE A "C" and only cause of the ending which was sort of hokey..
