This is a summer popcorn flick. Pure adrenaline rush to the max. I'm glad this film didn't punk out and go with a PG-13. The action sequences in this are so freakin' cool. Nothing terribly new, yet it still blew me away. I actually really dug the plot as well. Angelina Jolie kicked ass and Morgan Freeman is a complete badass. Wanted is really stylish, incredibly entertaining, pretty damn funny ("...or you can kill this mother fucker..." - Morgan Freeman, Wesley in the office when he quits, etc.), and one of the best films of the year.

Ignore Wall-E, go see this.

Honestly, the R-rating didn't do that much. Most of the cursing didn't add much except for the "kill this mother fucker" part. And it wasn't really that gory. This could have easily been PG-13 and I would have given it the same rating. I still think it was a stupid decision (business wise) to NOT go PG-13.

Heh funny that one reviewer actually said it deserves NC-17 for all the gory killings.

That person needs their head examined, this film was toothless it would have been easy enough to get a PG-13.

People, COOL IT. It's a joke. Let me be excited about my film this weekend. You Wall-E fans run into every thread and scream how excited you are about your film, and I can't ever speak against it? All I proclaimed was that this is the film to see this weekend. Chill.

Post Re: Wanted
There are aspects of Wanted that were really, really enjoyable - some of the action sequences are playful and stylish, it's often very funny (the beginning - before the action starts - is probably the best part imo - the voiceovers were well used at that point), but it's thin on plot and sensibility, which is ultimately pretty important - even for a film like this. I'm not sure this film intends to be stupid fun, or if it's advocating for violence - it comes close to the line where it occasionally makes me feel uncomfortable about the film's message. I'm probably just an estrogen-filled fruit for thinking that, though. It's got no direction, wooden acting, and some of the dialogue near the end is just dreadful, but for some reason it's not a complete disaster. It's somewhere between failure and greatness - it could go either way for any viewer. So try it with caution, I guess?

Don't you guys think Angelina lost too much weight for this role? I mean she looked smoking hot, but not as hot as she usually looks. Her face looked a little bony along with her arms.

well some good and some bad.

- boy was that guy annoying in the beginning of the movie, especially when he was screaming like a girl in the car.

- some really bad CGI??? - parts of the car chases and the train scenes.

- but basically what you expected, ok, not great - up to the final scene -
Spoiler: show
guess the point was that Jolie was all in - ever since she was the little girl - and had to carry out all kill orders.

- anyway, I would rather have them picked another villain - maybe the one giving the orders.....and seems carzy that the father couldn't have gotten to the son earlier but whatever.

and how did he get all of those bomb watches on the rats.

Its was ok, one of those movies you watch once, it held my attention but I have no desire to watch it again.

Mcvoy, i like him, he needs to be in a movie I really enjoy, with rewatch value.

Jolie is hot, but I like her better with a bit more meat, that said I want her clothes in this movie.

I liked that he actually got wounded in the finale.

The sequel could be very iffy given who would actually be in it.

I will say this, the movies this summer are so much better then last summer, why they may not all be as good as Iron Man, I am actually having fun at the movies this summer, last summer I hated everything.

The plot twist makes no sense to me because it seemed like the rogue assasin shot his son in the arm even though hes been saying hes trying to protect him. That part was too confusing and opened alot of plot holes. Im wondering about the comic books too because it seemed like it could have easily been a 30+ episode arc story going on but they crammed it into 1hr 45 minutes. Thats pretty much my complaint but I love the style the same way as I love Crank and Shoot Em Up. Its not as funny but I could still recommend it.

enjoyed it for what it was. The actions scenes were great but I felt there needed to be more action. His training went on for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to long. Jolie needs to eat a little more food.

yeah it was nowhere as gory as say Crank or Shoot Em Up but even they arent anywhere near NC-17. Now if we talk Rambo, that could have bneen NC-17

Bloodiest. Movie. Ever. But no, I think NC-17 should be for porn only. It would take like 3 Rambo's combined in order to get an NC-17 rating IMO. Can you imagine the carnage? ;)

Wanted is perhaps overly hyperkinetic and proposterous, but it's also very entertaining. Your brain will not be particularly challenged by this film, but that's not what the filmmakers are going for. James McAvoy gives a solid lead performance for this type of film, and the scenes at the beginning give Wesley a decided everyman quality that leads the audience to root for him. Angelina Jolie, as is usually the case for her and films like this, smolders and kicks a lot of butt. Morgan Freeman (yay, he said hi to me in NYC the other day, heh) is a little underused but adds class to the proceedings (which he accomplishes in pretty much every single film role). The action sequences are extremely well-choreographed and exciting, and director Timur Bekmambetov has a good eye for visual flair. Check your brain at the door and enjoy. B

Wanted

I enjoyed watching this movie. I liked McAvoy alot more than I expected and Jolie was very good to watch. I thought the action and stunts were fun and exciting. I felt the train sequence towards the end with all the cars crashing was way over the top. I liked how the plot turned at the end and mcavoy turns on his former Fraternity brothers but I can't say I was fond of the rat bit. That was also a bit excessive. I wasn't bothered by the twisting bullets as I was when I saw the trailer. Overall, I really liked it and would love to see a sequel and more of Mcavoy. Too bad there's no more of Jolie unfortunately. Lastly, after viewing this I'd Love to see Mcavoy as bilbo baggins!

grade - B

Yes he does, but you will have the pleasure of one 2 minute sequence that's nice.

The action was all great except for the overuse of bullet-curving. "HAHAHA we can do this new things America. It was in every trailer and every TV spot and we'll use it in every fuck scene in the movie!" Aside from that, when the action was on I was glued to the screen. McCavoy did pretty decent as well, given the source material. Everything had a really distinct visual style. I've never seen anything else by this director, but I'd like to see what he could do in action outside of the constraints of Hollywood.

Everything else was a huge deterrent. The plot was pretty thin and predictable (it doesn't get in the way from enjoying the movie, it just prevents it from being anything truly great). Freeman and Jolie phone in their performances. And the fucking bullet curving!

Question about the comic book vs movie...

Are the Fraternity supposed to be superhumans? I know they have mad skills with guns and knives and karate and such. But the beginning Matrix-esque scene with the leap between skyscrapers, that bugged me a bit.

My answer without reading the comic book:

Well the guy was clearly running at a superspeed or something. I think that was a "deeper" untapped power for the people in the fraternity. The only reason I say that is because it looks like Wesley slightly scratches the surface of that deeper power when he's running down the trainstation.

I think they are supposed to be superhumans of some sort. Jolie says that he has an ability that less than a hundred people on earth have.

Monday Night showing: 80% full

Such a weird movie in that some of it's best moments were probably the better moments in action cinema for quite a while, but it's actual plot development ranged from good to fucking ridiculous, with a lot of it falling into the latter category.

I think that Angelina Jolie made this eight times better just for her presence in the movie. The action was great. But the character stuff was pretty weak - you never connect with the characters like you should.

At the beginning a lot of the visual style and editing was completely un-necessary and over-blown, such as the scene with his boss and the stapler.

James McAvoy is good, but never great. Morgan Freeman doesn't even seem that interested.
The biggest issue with the movie is the ridiculousness of its nature at times, and the cheesy way it explains it. I think that the action sequences definitely redeem this and it's a fun and exciting movie to watch, with a solid last act.

That said, the final sequence reduces it to a place where James McAvoy basically becomes an asshole and makes fun of the audience's normality, and speaking down to your audience like that is never a good note to end on.

And in terms of things that made the audience laugh out loud ? Try a "Loom of Fate!". Seriously?

My friends and I almost cried laughing at that.
We said before we went in "Im sure there will be a moment in this movie so terribly cheesy and bad it will be lodged in our memories more than anything else" and sure enough, the loom of fate delivered.

If that wasn't bad enough, the flashbacks of the loom of fate sealed the deal.

Also, thanks for calling me a pathetic waste of life at the end of the movie, Wanted, totally motivates me to go into the theater and pay another $12. Nothing quite like being called a sack of shit to make me shell over my money.

Horrible piece of shit this was. Grating, obnoxious, mean-spirited, and insulting. The action wasn't exciting in the least because it was so preposterous and rife with slow-mo, which sucked the life right out of it. One of the worst movies in a long time.
