The Lady Eve
The Lady EveQuote: The Lady Eve is a 1941 American screwball comedy film. It is about a mismatched couple who meet on a luxury liner, written by Preston Sturges based on a story by Monckton Hoffe, and directed by Sturges, his third directorial effort, after The Great McGinty and Christmas in July. The film stars Henry Fonda and Barbara Stanwyck and features Charles Coburn, Eugene Pallette, William Demarest and Eric Blore.
In 1994, The Lady Eve was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

Re: The Lady Eve
Caught this on TMC, and I'm sad to say I was left cold. This is easily the worst of the Preston Sturges movies I've seen - - everything else he directed had sparkling comedic dialogue and memorably offbeat characters. I suppose it doesn't help that Henry Fonda couldn't play comedy if it killed him - - the guy's great in the intense dramas, but here he's invisible. And I've never been the biggest Barbara Stanwyck fan - - she's got more comedy chops than Fonda, but that ain't saying much.
A huge disappointment.
