The Ant Bully is a 2006 computer-animated film based on the 1999 children's book and produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman's Playtone, John Davis and Keith Alcorn's DNA Productions and directed by the aforementioned Davis. Released in movie theatres on July 28, 2006 by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, it is based on a book by John Nickle and features the voices of Nicolas Cage, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Allison Mack, Paul Giamatti and Ricardo Montalbán (in his final film role). Concurrently with the general release, the film was offered in big screen IMAX 3D, the format also used with The Polar Express. This is also the first animated film produced by Legendary Pictures.

I'm going to see it on it's (delayed  ) opening day in IMAX 3D...

Can't wait! I love ants!!!

"If all of humanity were to disappear, the remainder of life would spring back and flourish. The mass extinctions now underway would cease, the damaged ecosystems heal and expand outward. However, if all the ants somehow disappeared, the effect would be exactly the opposite, and catastrophic. Species extinction would increase even more than the present rate, and the land ecosystems would shrivel rapidly as the considerable services provided by these insects were pulled away."

Delayed? Eh?

Been playing at my IMAX theater since Friday.

It was decent.. I'd give it between a B and a C.

It isn't playing in IMAX in most places? Eh? Haven't places ever heard of sharing the screen? We split it between Ant Bully and Superman...

C+

A great voice cast does not make up for a weak story and a mostly unexciting movie. There are some cool scenes, especially the showdown towards the end, but overall, it's rather slow and misses a lot of opportunities. If you want to see better animated flicks involving ants, just go and see A Bug's Life or Antz. Both of them are quite superior to this.
