Quote:
Payback is a 1999 American crime thriller directed by Brian Helgeland and starring Mel Gibson. The film shares the same source material as the 1967 noir-classic Point Blank, directed by John Boorman and starring Lee Marvin; both are based on the book The Hunter, written by Donald E. Westlake under the pseudonym of Richard Stark.

The film was Helgeland's directorial debut after a career as a screenwriter. Helgeland in 2006 issued a director's cut greatly different from the version released by the studio.

Not quite as good as I had hoped for. Below average for Mel Gibson, in my opinion.

C+

Haven't seen it in a love time. Only remember that I fell in love with Maria Bello. And I liked the edge of it (B-)

The film is pretty clever, and Mel Gibson is amazing. Sort of really violent, and I didnt really enjoy the film was shot. A little slow at times, its a okay film, but a fun film all at the same time.

Not nearly as much action here as I hoped for, but Mel Gibson's cynical and edgy performance as well as the glorious violence in this one make up for it. The ending was well-made and I enjoyed it as well as Lucy Liu's over-the-top character. Overall, this movie is best described as simply "cool". The dark humor worked well for me as well.

I actually thought it was pretty damn great too. Couldn't decide which version I liked more though.

For me, since I saw the other one first, I wanted to see all the action on film...as this one was more arty I guess, leaving more up to the imagination.

and to green....here are some of the differences from wiki.....

Spoiler: show
from wiki...........http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payback_(film)

here are the big differences......

>>>>> this was a big one > as this person was only a lady's voice on the phone > Removal of scenes with Kristofferson's character and the torture scene
>>>>> just kindof leaves it hanging after a shootout but then Gibson does a mind remembering thing on his life > An alternate ending
