Post Re: Dont Look Back
It's a great companion piece to I'm Not There (though I suppose it should be the reverse), as it's basically where the Cate Blanchett sequence of that film drew its attitude and tone from, as well as where Blanchett (I'm assuming) got the inspiration for her performance.

It's probably my favourite documentary I've seen so far, or at least my favourite vérité one, as it does a superb job capturing the atmosphere and mood of the tour through Pennebaker's roving and intrusive camera. The gritty, black and white feel suits the almost underground nature of the film perfectly.

It's also a testament to the amazing charisma of Bob Dylan, as several sequences of the film are propelled merely by the force of his words. The scene where he berates the Time reporter simply has to be seen.

All in all, a totally immersive and engaging work. Don't be put off by the documentary label; it's just as entertaining as 'scripted' features. And it's almost entirely due to Dylan.
