 Le dernier combat [The Last Battle] The Last Battle Quote: Le Dernier Combat (French pronunciation: [lə dɛʁnje kɔ̃ba], The Last Battle), released in 1983 French film is the first feature film made by Luc Besson. The film is a dark vision of post-apocalyptic survival.
The plot explores the devastation of civilization and issues of brutality, hostility and isolation. Pierre Jolivet stars as the main character (identified only as "The Man" in the end credits) who is menaced by "The Brute" (played by Jean Reno) on his journey through a world filled by people rendered nearly mute by some unknown incident.
Besson served as writer, producer and director for the movie. The entire picture is filmed in black and white and has received cult status for having virtually no dialog. It is also the first of many collaborations between Luc Besson, Eric Serra (musician) and Jean Reno (actor).

It's like somebody took the director from the original Mad Max and slashed an already tight budget by 90% and then demanded nobody talk and that it was essential to have scenes where a midget is living in an old car boot AND have Jean Reno wear glasses and look like a loony toon character.
Yikes that was a long sentence, anyhoo its a very tight personal apocalypse film and the manner in which it goes about its business with no dialogue at any point is highly commendable. Just don't watch this unless your fully awake or fully sober (or hopefully both) unless you want your eyeballs to roll out of your head in confusion.
