 Un chien andalou
Un chien andalou Quote: Un Chien Andalou (French pronunciation: [œ̃ ʃjɛ̃ ɑ̃dalu], An Andalusian Dog) is a 1929 silent surrealist short film by the Spanish director Luis Buñuel and artist Salvador Dalí. It was Buñuel's first film and was initially released in 1929 to a limited showing in Paris, but became popular and ran for eight months.
The film has no plot in the conventional sense of the word. The chronology of the film is disjointed, jumping from the initial "once upon a time" to "eight years later" without the events or characters changing very much. It uses dream logic in narrative flow that can be described in terms of then-popular Freudian free association, presenting a series of tenuously related scenes.

That was pretty gross, from the story, apparently it was a real cow's eye that was cut.
This is something to watch once as it its the perfect example of surrealism, though watching it more than once is pretty dull, as theres nothing to it other than that, and of course THE EYE!

 Re: Un chien andalou
Sure it's disturbing, but it's also pretty brilliant, too. That eye scene isn't just there for shock value, it's a warning to the audience that this film will be unlike anything they've seen before. And it isn't, for this film completely does away with any sensible narrative and seems content to show as much bizarre imagery as possible. Some might think it boring, some might think it disgusting, but I found it fascinating. Easily one of the best short films I've seen and a milestone in surrealist cinema.
