Quote:
The Time Machine (also known promotionally as H.G. Wells's The Time Machine) is a 1960 American science fiction film based on the novel of the same name written by H. G. Wells in 1895 in which a man in Victorian England constructs a time-travelling machine which he uses to travel to the future. The film starred Rod Taylor, Alan Young and Yvette Mimieux.

The film was produced and directed by George Pal, who also filmed a 1953 version of Wells's The War of the Worlds. Pal had always intended to make a sequel to his 1960 film, but it was not produced until 2002 when Simon Wells (born 1961), great-grandson of H.G. Wells, working with executive producer Arnold Leibovit, directed a film with the same title.

The film received an Oscar for time-lapse photographic effects showing the world changing rapidly.

In 1985, elements of this film were incorporated into The Fantasy Film Worlds of George Pal, produced by Arnold Leibovit.

Always loved this film. Seen it quite a few times, never gets old.

Hmmmm not sure what to write about it. Its quite old fashioned if one was to be critical, and some of the sequences (the nuclear satellites) are very dated by modern standards but it keeps up a steady momentum throughout and the ending is quite satisfying in its execution.

So yea an old matinee classic worth a view.

It's pretty solid until it jumps to the distant future, at which point it becomes just another Hollywood adventure serial. The end is kinda silly, too - wish they had stuck with the book's ending. All the social commentary is there and welcome, though, and Rod Taylor is pretty good, but it's really not anything great or noteworthy.
