Animal Factory

Good film. It's not really anything special, the prison drama is more like we've seen in other films as well, but decent nonetheless. It's the strong performance from its cast, Furlong shows why he really had more in his career then he got out of it since, Defoe is just excellent, and there's a small impressive role from Tom Arnold against type too. But also I shouldn't forget Rourke really, he has probably the most memorable role as sassy drag queen. The film goes thrown the motions of prison life, which is interesting, going how from ending up inside for a small misdemeanor can just lead to actions with greater consequences. There's a pretty basic and plain escape plan ending to round off the story, though it doesn't really do anything additional for tension, it all remains pretty down to earth actually. Interesting to see it being directed by Buscemi, a successful effort.
