Post Re: Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles
The Shadow Chronicles pretty much shows that Harmony Gold is extremely dependent on the original material by Shōji Kawamori. Pretty much the movie takes place after the Invid Invasion left off and this time around Scott Bernard and Ariel are a couple this time.

The gripes I had about this film is that the CGI movement for the prototypes seem extremely outdated and the alien ships could have used more an enhanced look. The biggest reason why they look the way they are it seems is that Tommy Yune and Harmony Gold seem be more influenced by shows like Battle Star Galatica, Star Trek,Firefly and Stargate rather than space opera animes like Gundam, Ghost in the Shell, Captain Harlok, and Neon Genesis. Its a reason why short series like Macross Zero which had much better CGI work and action sequences than Shadow Chronicles. I would even argue that Macross Plus that came out 13 years ago looked better than Shadow Chronicles.

Im not saying that Shadow Chronicles is bad but it didnt have a good build up nor that it tried to introduce new protypes or ideas. The reason why the old Robotechs worked so well was because the action took place in tight urban areas or in more exotic and busy enviroments. By having it completely take place in space really renders the whole sequences non exciting.

If you plan on watching the Shadow Chronicles, also watch Macross Zero so you can see a good comparison. This has nothing to do with Robotech vs pure Macross but something that Harmony Gold needs to improve on and re-evaulate
