Re: Kiss of the Spider Woman
Really wonderful film. Dolce called this one of the best of the rest - that is, one of the best films to be nominated for the Academy's Best Picture without winning. William Hurt turns in a remarkable performance, skirting a fine line between over-acting and creating a completely original character; watch this film if only to see how he creates a truly unique character. Raul Julia is quite good as well; his subdued performance is skillful and didn't receive as much attention as it should of. The film itself is concerned with many ideas - sexuality, love, terrorism (three ideas too often put together, hehe), and escapism. It makes for a really compelling picture - certainly there isn't much out there like this. A rare gem worth watching - if you can find one of the dated VHS copies... its hard to come across this modern gem.
