I dug this. A lot. It's not "thoughtful" or "sobering," which is its best attribute.

It's pure swagger. Colorful, larger-than-life characters. Exciting action. Every scene is fun and suspenseful. There's this great bit early on where the main character (Vincent Cassel) and a few of his pals are sitting around the card table plotting a heist. They toast to their success, and then it smash cuts to Cassel in prison.
A fresh, loose, super-cool film. Can't wait to see part two.
