A sweet, entertaining romantic comedy that suffers from weak direction. All of the other elements of a great film are in place, from the great actors to the strong script. But first-timer Justin Theroux seems utterly determined to give his film a weird, offbeat indie feel. He is unable to determine which visual style he wants to use throughout, and because of this the film often goes through awkward shifts in tone. Once the camera settles down a bit, though, there is little to complain about. Billy Crudup is great, turning his strange, often unsympathetic character into someone the audience actually cares about. His performance is very effective and shows how talented he is. Mandy Moore steals the show, however, delivering an effortlessly charming performance that once again proves how underrated she is. This is easily her strongest performance to date, and she has great chemistry with Crudup that makes their relationship believable. Anyways, a very good film that I would definitely recommend, especially to fans of Garden State and other films of that sort.

Hm... I actually loved it, a huge surprise. I think it's a pretty strong directorial debut for Theroux, and both Billy Crudup and Mandy Moore are really great.

It should have done better in theatres...
