Re: For a Good Time, Call...
Was able to attend the New York premiere for this one last night. I'd been excited for this one for a while since I read the glowing Sundance reviews and it did not disappoint. This film is uproarious and actually really touching as well. I've been a huge fan of Ari Graynor ever since her supporting turn in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, where she stole the movie from her more experienced co-stars. It's easily one of my favorite recent comedic performances. In her first leading role she proves she is up to the task, delivering a hilarious, sassy and likable performance as Katie and really selling the more dramatic moments in the script as well. Lauren Miller (who also co-wrote) is also great and very charming, and both her and Graynor have great chemistry. Justin Long has fun with a prominent supporting role and Mark Webber is sweet as Graynor's love interest. Plus there are a ton of fun cameos throughout as the various phone sex clients (only one of which, Seth Rogen, is spoiled in the trailer). I'm actually surprised that Focus is releasing this as it is pretty mainstream and marketable - it reminded me a lot of Bridesmaids in terms of its tone and depiction of female friendships. It's the funniest movie I've seen so far this year, and I'd highly recommend it. A-

Re: For a Good Time, Call...
The premise is perfect for a sitcom from 1982, and much of the movie does in fact feel like a sitcom minus the laugh track, but I have to say with complete surprise that this is the second funniest film of the year for me behind Ted. I didn't expect to laugh quite as hard or as often as I did. And although they don't have quite the comedic rhythm that Wiig and Rudolph or Fey and Poheler had, I'd really like to see another film with Graynor and Miller together. Speaking of Graynor, I really liked her character arc. I was legitimately surprised by it and I thought it gave the movie a little more weight in the final act.
So yeah, this was pretty good.

Hilarious, and pretty heart-felt as well.

Side note: That poster is an awful representation of the actresses. I like the idea, but the way they executed it makes the two girls look like completely different people.
