 The Guru
The Guru Quote: The Guru is a 2002 British-French-American romantic comedy film written by Tracey Jackson and directed by Daisy von Scherler Mayer. The film centers on a dance teacher who comes to America from India to pursue a normal career but incidentally stumbles into a brief but high-profile career as a sex guru, a career based on a philosophy he learns from a pornographic actress.
The film stars Jimi Mistry as the eponymous character, Heather Graham as the actress he learns from, and Marisa Tomei, who helps him reach his guru status among her socialite New York City friends.

This movie is so fun and entertaining! It's very underrated. Jimi Mistry is great here.

 Re: The Guru
Here's my original review from the 2003 theatrical release:
Being a casual, but enthusiastic fan of Bollywood movies and absolutely loving low-comedies, I found this movie to be super-fun! I saw it at a theatre with a predominantly Indian audience, and a full house to boot. The audience was in hysterics. This movie is really just too cute and too darn funny. Jimmy Mistry as the title character, Swami Bu, and supporting work from Marisa Tomei is solid, though Heather Graham couldn't act her way out of a paper bag, but she sure can squirm around real good (Billy Joel's Just The Way You Are will never sound the same to me again.) The musical numbers are all classics of cultural hybrid fusion (which imho, is a most hopeful sign for the future of humanity!)
It apparently was #1 in Britain when it opened last August, but I doubt it will win over the general N. American market. But for any of you who are into any of this kinda stuff, well, you're in for a treat.
(Even better, they had a great preview for a movie that will certainly appeal to the same audience, though perhaps with a bit more soft-hearted bent -- Bend It Like Beckham.) [I wonder how hat turned out? And yes - - I'm talking to you Kiera Knightley! ;) ]
10 out of 5.
