Trolling the channels on a late night after a hard day of work can sometimes be a risky proposition.
You seek entertainment, be it softcore por n a late showing of Match of The Day or one of those endless Star Trek re-runs that clutter the airwaves you'll pretty much take anything.
It was on one of these program hopping forays that I stumbled across Wishmaster 3 and sensing trashy fun I decided to watch, and it pretty much conformed to the initial judgment.
The story seems pretty simple, we get a quick set-up on a college campus complete with sex mad couple girl with issues and college professor. Said Girl with issues accidentally releases some sort of freaky creature called the Djinn who immediately kills the college professor, takes his form and tries to find her so she makes three wishes and brings about hell on earth.
It becomes pretty clear about 15 minutes into this film that a wish from the Djinn is a pretty screwed up thing to asked for, it seems the git has no sense of far play.
Example: Professor wishes for the two most attractive women in the world to be in love with him, and these women then rip off his skin and deep throat him to death. Clearly I was mis-informed as to what love was!
The whole wishes angle has a macabre Final Destination feel about them, I mean the main story is awful but you still watch to see how the sneaky Djinn will subvert a persons wish against them, and so you get to see a persons heart broken literally and the weirdest one of all someone stitched up into a mute sack, I swear if a man with a devilish smile asks me to make a wish in future I'll be running a mile.
As I mentioned the main story is pretty bad and the acting is pure Z-Grade cheese, there seems to be a lot of idiots in this movie and the entire last 15 minutes is lifted almost verbatim from the end of The Terminator, except with a really low budget.
Its not something I'd watch again but as late night channel hopping entertainment it was a passable effort.
