Quote:
Outbreak is a 1995 American disaster film starring Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Spacey. The film was directed by Wolfgang Petersen. In addition, Outbreak features Cuba Gooding, Jr., Donald Sutherland, and Patrick Dempsey.

The film focuses on an outbreak of a fictional Ebola-like virus called Motaba in Zaire and later in a small town in the United States. Its primary settings are government disease control centers USAMRIID and the CDC, and the fictional town of Cedar Creek, California. Outbreak shows how far the military and civilian agencies might go to contain the spread.

The film was released on March 10, 1995 and proved a solid box office success. The film was nominated for various awards but failed to garner any major award nominations. It also raised various "what-if" scenarios: media outlets began to question what the government would really do in a similar situation and if the CDC has plans in case an outbreak ever does occur. A real-life outbreak of the Ebola virus occurred in Zaire only a few months after the film was released.

I like it, Great solid Cast and pretty good thriller of the mid 90s. B+

Very entertaining, though by the numbers, thriller with a top notch cast.

Pretty stale, and Dustin Hoffman sucks (as he pretty much has since the 80s), but I can't help but watch whenever it's on.

Watched this for the first time. First half is pretty good and hits extra hard due to the current world events. The scenes where Dempsey is spreading it around most especially. The last forty five minutes are mostly ridiculous though, focusing more on the conspiracy than the crisis. When they make the Coronavirus movie I hope they don't set it from Mike Pence's point of view.

Watching this again and Contagion tonight was definitely an interesting experience to say the least, but I honestly vastly preferred this film over Contagion. Sure it isn't as realistic and yeah it gets a bit ridiculous towards the end, but man is this movie entertaining. I love that this movie is pretty much a big budget, mid 90's disaster film. I'm a sucker for those kinds of flicks anyways and have been since I was a kid and it sucks that they just don't make them like this anymore. All of the cast does a really solid job here as well, especially Dustin Hoffman, Donald Sutherland and Cuba Gooding Jr. The outbreak scenes are straight up horrifying at times too. That movie theater/hospital sequence is still nightmare inducing IMO.

The first half is superb. The second half not as good but still a good enjoyable experience. I’m due to watch this again soon.

BTW - the monkey in this is Marcel on Friends. He filmed this during season 1 of Friends. In the S2 post SB episode that also features Julia Roberts - they send up Marcel becoming a Hollywood star filming a similar film.
