National Lampoon's Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj
National Lampoon's Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj Quote: National Lampoon's Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj is a 2006 sequel to the 2002 comedy National Lampoon's Van Wilder starring Kal Penn. Despite the film's title, lead actor Ryan Reynolds does not return in his role as Van Wilder.

Biggest problem with Rise of Taj is that it's simply average. It's not really a gross-out comedy at all like the first, other than the name you can't find much similarities between them... It's just your typical college movie, blah blah fraternity competition, underdog casted out fraternity, prats, almost cheating on exam and getting expelled, girl switching sides, it's the exact same movie National Lampoon has been making for years with the Van Wilder tag slapped on it, nothing more.
On the plus side the female lead in Lauren Cohen is a huge improvement over Tara Reid, and it is on her back that the relationship between her and Penn is made almost believable, and she is overall the highlight of the film. She also carries the highlight of the film, a ballroom fencing scene.
For those who hated the over the top gross-out of the original, the C level grade of the sequel would probably seem an improvement, since the film isn't necessarily bad, it's just average and a little stale and boring. Mostly a forgettable comedy that has been done exactly the same far too many times before.

Yeah, the film is very, very generic. I've seen the same plot so many times now I'm sick of it and expect more. Where's the creativity?

Painful. I expected it to be moronic, but not so incredibly, incredibly dull. F.

I only rented it cause it was free. I had three movies and they were like "You can get a fourth for free!" so I did. And it still isn't worth seeing even if you can get it for free.
