Poltergeist
PoltergeistQuote: Poltergeist is a 1982 American ghost horror film, directed by Tobe Hooper and produced by Steven Spielberg, and is the first and most successful film of the Poltergeist film trilogy. Set in a California suburb, the plot focuses on a family whose home is invaded by malevolent ghosts that abduct the family's youngest daughter into the world of the afterlife.
The film was ranked as #80 on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments and the Chicago Film Critics Association named it the 20th scariest film ever made. The film also appeared as #84 on American Film Institute's 100 Years... 100 Thrills, a list of America's most heart-pounding movies. Poltergeist was also nominated for three Academy Awards.
The Poltergeist franchise is often said to be cursed due to the premature deaths of several people associated with the film. "The Poltergeist Curse" has been the focus of an E! True Hollywood Story.

Good creepy horror. "They're coming" is a great line, obviously.

Isn't the line "They're Here"
Great movie, you can tell Spielberg was a dominant force over Hooper in this film and it really is probably one of the best ghost/ apparition films of all time.

It's aged a bit in 25 years but it's still a fun, creepy movie.

One of the best horror movies ever made. Obviously very Spielbergian. It's inventive, creepy, haunting and not even a single person dies in this film. Very well-done. We need more like this one nowadays.

Re: Poltergeist
Yeah, it's pretty scary, with some great effects, but it's paced pretty poorly. There's not a lot of build-up before shit starts happening and then there's two climaxes, the latter of which feels tacked on. Not to mention it goes from creepy, atmospheric horror to out-and-out slasher at the end, complete with idiotic characters and lots of screaming. It's pretty obviously the result of the clash of the two minds behind this - too bad Spielberg couldn't have just done the whole thing himself. Still, it's an intense, powerful film.

Re: Poltergeist
Saw it for the first time. When it comes to the scares, I thought a fiLm Like The Shining overshadows it by a miLe but overaLL, they're equaLLy very good. SeveraL eccentric stuff were shown throughout which 99% of horror movies today don't do.
And that cLown scene...scared the shit out of me.

Re: Poltergeist
I saw this for the first (and currently only) time when I was 15. I didn't really care for it at all then. I didn't think it was scary. I actually found it quite cheesy. It did have one scary part though (the part with the damn clown). Not sure if I'd enjoy it better now or not.

Re: Poltergeist
Seeing as PARANORMAL ACTIVITY is the POLTERGEIST for the YOUTUBE Generation, I'd say that POLTERGEIST is infinitely better in every way conceivable.. Every so often, they'll run an "E" True Hollywood Story on the movie POLTERGEIST and how the set of this movie was cursed with the little girl dying shortly thereafter, around the time of the lame uneeded sequel with the roman numeral 2 in it..

Poltergeist
This has not aged well at all. It is not scary and total crap. I guess it was the second and third one that scared me when I was younger, not this steaming pile of horse shit.

Re: Poltergeist
I watched it for the first time today. It's extremely well made, the special effects are amazing, and it's effectively spooky. It never quite reaches scary. The clown comes close though. Oh and JoBeth Williams might be the queen of all milfs. The camera loves her. And when she gets those white streaks in her hair...
