 Kilómetro 31 [Kilometre 31]
Kilometer 31 Quote: Kilometre 31 (Kilómetro 31 or km 31) is a 2007 Mexican horror film, written and directed by Rigoberto Castañeda. The film is inspired by the Crying Woman legend (La Llorona) and legends about highway ghosts.

In the past few years, it has become clear to me that most of the good horror efforts nowadays come either from independent filmmaking or from countries other than the USA. I read some great things about KM 31 as well, so I eventually decided to check it out.
It turned out to be a rather generic ghost stories that had the potential in its story to be better than it actually ended up being, but never really used this potential to its fullest. There are some creepy setpieces and scary moments, but overall it is really too predictable and offers nothing new to the genre. Obviously, I don't expect every horror film to reinvent the genre, but this one borrows and steals from way too many films for its own good. It does so in a pretty good way, pacing the thrills pretty well and building the suspense slowly, but gradually, but the ultimate pay-off is just too disappointing and the backstory just a bit too implausible to really make a lasting impression.
