Re: Independence Day
Watched this on AMC last night. Awe it is still so fucking awesome. Yeah the general plot is absurd how the characters all know eachother and what not, but the movie still just works so well. The build up and execution of the attack scene is just fucking flawless. And love how they have the Americans be the group who brings the world together. HELL YEAH.
"The aliens...abused him...SEXUALLY..."
"......NUKE EM..."
"Insert Will Smith line here"
& LOL at the super generic Jew and Black people.

Re: Independence Day
I just rewatched this today as I wanted to revisit it before the sequel. It's such a good popcorn flick. Is the sequel really that bad?

Re: Independence Day
This is a crap film. Amazingly, its sequel is worse.

Re: Independence Day
This film sets up 3 strong co leads dealing with an alien invasion from 3 different perspectives. A 4th if you count Quaid. The imagery is quite fantastic and the score just completely fuels every scene. It's extremely fun even when it gets a little cheesy (You roll your eyes when the dog makes that slow motion jump, yet you still somewhat cheer just how absurd it is) But it also has a lot of tension. The Alien autopsy scene scared the shit out of me as a kid. And while we're on that, Spiner clearly dies in the film (his presence is just one of the frustrating "what" you ask yourself while watching the sequel)
I watched this 2 days after seeing the first. This is a simple story, with simple characters, but everything is executed in a near perfectly calculated fashion, backed by strong performances, and great technique.

Re: Independence Day
I don't love this movie, but it's a fucking masterpiece compared to the sequel. A dumb, fun, popcorn blockbuster done right and the type of film we will sadly never see again.

Re: Independence Day
The films intelligence goes up by 10x if they had not deleted the scene which stated that computers were able to created due to technology taken from the crashed alien ship, thus the whole "give it a virus" thing would have been semi plausible.
