Entirely mediocre and forgettable drama, with an interesting look at Nazi Germany ruined by a silly story, wooden acting, and some terrible dialogue. The portrayal of Germany under Hitler from the perspective of the kids is an intriguing concept, one never really fully realized in this film. Instead, we get a cheesy, melodramatic, and ultimately silly movie. Christian Bale is pretty one-note here in an early role, and Kenneth Branagh, in a small role, is completely wasted. Has potential, but wastes it.
