A very surprising movie indeed. In no way is it a masterpiece or even groundbreaking, but it is immensly entertaining. A mediocre opening scene leads to a very tense and extremely gorey remainder of the film. A solid conclusion that, unlike most films in the genre isn't too outlandish makes this one of the better entries in its genre.

Overall, a definate must-see for slasher fans and one of the more entertaining horror films of the year. B+

Wow! So supposedly better than House of Wax and the TCM remake? Hmm...

Yes. It didn't take itself seriously, it had a nice element of B-grade movie to it. It was also incredibly more gorey and much more "tense" then those films. And the ending was great too. Sure, it was cliched, but not more then any of the other horror films out there now.

Venom was a lot better than it could have been.

It's quite gory, too. I liked it.

A solid B.

I wasn't a big fan of the film. Even in the constraints of the R-rating, I didn't think it was gory enough. Also, the Voodoo stuff wasn't needed at all. On the plus side though, the female lead was hot, so the film wasn't bad to look at, but her casting was really the only thing that was good with the film. That and the way Bjiou Phillips and Method Man got killed.

Interesting.

Well I loved it, it made its way as an honorable mention in my "Best Films of the Year" review. ;)

Entertainingly cliched slasher film that knows it is as such and thus has fun within its constraints. It featured noticeably more build-up than most slasher films with decently fleshed-out characters.
