It's a pretentious, often ridiculous film -- some scenes need to be seen to be believed -- but those pretensions ultimately make the film quite interesting and rather entertaining. Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey, Jr. (in full Cowardly Lion garb) pull off what could have been a disaster in less-skilled hands.
I wasn't fully enveloped with Arbus as a figure (which the film should have been able to accomplish), but I was intrigued and rather moved by the film's end.

I actually feel very similar to this. I thought it was incredibly pretentious and often unbelievably strange, but I still enjoyed it because of the great performances and the offbeat visual style. It's nothing great, but it is certainly far from a disaster.

This is underrated. It's like a quirky, late 50s Beauty and the Beast. I like how it's always teetering on the edge of sanity but never really goes over the edge and it always keeps its charming air. I definitely love the way is film is shot. It's... colourful.
The leads do great, great work. Maybe among their best anytime recently. They have... vitality. It's a very emotional movie. Robert Downey, Jr. has broken the cool quotient... If he can make a guy with human furball syndrome seem like the man, he can do anything.
Maybe one of my favorites of 06. I'm shocked by the negative critics reaction
4.5/5

My only issue as mentioned, is that this didn't really need to be about Diane Arbus. You could change her name and just make her a random bored housewife and the film doesn't lose anything
