 Rock Star Rock Star Quote: Rock Star is a 2001 American comedy-drama film directed by Stephen Herek and starring Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston. It tells the story of Chris "Izzy" Cole, a tribute band singer whose ascendance to the position of lead vocalist of his favorite band was inspired by the real-life story of Tim "Ripper" Owens, singer in a Judas Priest tribute band who was chosen to replace singer Rob Halford when he left the band.

Enjoyable, but overall pretty average. Mark Wahlberg does not make a believable rock star.

I think Wahlberg actually did a pretty decent jobb. Timothy Spall was the best thing about the whole flick. Aniston was way too whiney and weepy throughout the film. I think the story was handled rather poorly. It's your typical story of rise and fall, but the whole ascension to stardoom and the fall are just handled within about 40 minutes, while almost nothing happens in the first hour.

yeah, it's a pretty bad movie but for some reason i can't stop watching it whenever it pops up on tv. it has that "so bad it's good" quality that makes it moderately enjoyable, a la showgirls.
