Quote:
Resident Evil is a 2002 science fiction horror film written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. The film stars Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Eric Mabius, and James Purefoy. It is based on the same titled series of survival horror games developed by Capcom. Borrowing elements from the video games Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2, the film follows amnesiac heroine Alice and a band of Umbrella Corporation commandos as they attempt to escape from a secret underground facility that at one time was filled with people but is now overrun with zombies.

The film was directed by Paul Anderson. The film was commercially successful, grossing US$103,887,401 worldwide; however, it received many negative reviews from critics. The first in the Resident Evil film franchise, it was followed by three sequels: Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Resident Evil: Extinction (2007) and Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010).

The best video game adaptation yet. A

Terrible movie. Horribly edited, shot, and acted. The action is somewhat entertaining, but everything else is just plain bad.

Sure the characters are paper thin and the transitions can be pretty shit. But for all it's shortcomings, Resident Evil works a lot better than it should. I'd say a lot of that is thanks to the very memorable score. While some scenes fall flat (that guy remembering he's a villian was laughable, as was the resolution to the scene), there's a lot of tense scenes that do work pretty well.

Terrible Video game adaptation that doesnt even follow the games. That may be one of the reasons that the sequels got better, as most films that follow the games never work out.

Anderson is a terrible director that is all about style.

Love this movie. I thought it was the perfect example of the RE video games. Who would actually want an exact adaptation of one of the games? Just play the damn game. An adaptation of RE1 would've bored the shit out of me after the many times I've played through it. I'm so happy this had an original plot, but it still felt familiar. RE2 tried to be like the games' plot, and it sucked. Thank God they made up an original plot for RE3.

Go ahead and kill me, but this is one of the most fun action-horrors I have ever seen and unlike its sequel, Apocalypse, it actually held up on repeat viewings as well. It's simply a thrill-ride with just enough action, horror, blood 'n gore to not bore for a single second.
