A Bug's Life
A Bug's LifeQuote: A Bug's Life is a 1998 American CGI animated film produced by Pixar and released by Walt Disney Pictures in the United States on November 25, 1998. A Bug's Life was the second Disney·Pixar feature film after Toy Story, and the third American computer-animated film after Toy Story and DreamWorks' Antz. Based on Akira Kurosawa's film Seven Samurai, and Aesop's fable The Ant and the Grasshopper, it tells the tale of an oddball individualist inventor ant who hires what he thinks are "warrior bugs" — actually circus performers — to fight off a small band of grasshoppers who have made the ant colony their servants. The film was directed by John Lasseter, and was co-directed by Andrew Stanton.

This may be Pixar's most underrated movie. I liked it better than Toy Story 1 or Monster's Inc. The message is a little generic (we can all stand together!) but it's a fun movie. I rate it an A-.

I think that this one is underrated, like Atoddr thought.
I think that it is great, 88/100. Like it better than The Incredibles.

I loved it! Very funny and original. Animation is very colorful and pretty, and I liked the fact that the ants were portrayed as purple. It's always overlooked, and its no by any means Pixar's best, but it is still an incredible film.

Nice movie, but Pixar's worst I have seen (which isn't saying much, since they are just good). Interesting plot, nice pacing. The characters are all unremarkable. The animation is significantly worse than it is nowadays in all recent Pixar flicks. Overall quite enjoyable. Lacks a bit in the humor department.

Pixar's worst, but that's still worthy of a B+.

B+! Not sure why this isn't better liked.
Pixar's worst, in my opinion, is Cars, but even that's a B-. Even bad Pixar is better than 99% of everything else out there.

Re: A Bug's Life
Oh my. This hasn't aged well.
It's hardly funny, the characters are basic at best, there's no depth whatsoever. The story is... well, it's actually dumb when you think about it. It's a version of the grasshopper and the ant story if I'm not mistaken, but the way grasshoppers have been turned into bad guys is kinda ridiculous. The moral of the story is much better in the original version, than what this movie is trying to sell.
I was kinda surprised to see how much I didn't like this one. And I liked it a lot a long time ago. Also the animation is really bad. That's the other segment that didn't age well. But I don't mind that much, it's more or less natural considering the rapid animation progress we have witnessed.

Re: A Bug's Life
It's fine, but not a patch on Antz.

Re: A Bug's Life
This is a very nice movie. The weakest part is the ant characters, who are mainly dull. But the grasshoppers and circus bugs pop like you expect Pixar characters to do. The animation is remarkably better than Toy Story just 3 years later. The story is a very neat twist on The Grasshopper and the Ant and the Seven Samurai. Hopper is a great villain, and every scene with him is very exciting.

Not sure if I've said this before but Antz is better. Oh, and Kevin Spacey rules.

Re: A Bug's Life
I just watched this again (something that will happen a lot from now on) and it's still enjoyable. The difference between this and Antz is that this is more for younger ones whereas Antz, while animated, has more adult themes and references. I prefer Antz, but A Bug's Life is still very good. B
I watched a bit of Toy Story earlier and, man, the 20+ year old animation shows.

Re: A Bug's Life
A Bug's Life is great in the building the world of Ants but when it expands I wished for more. The finale is also very predictable and has no emotional touch. This is more of a generic Pixar entry than the usual - drawn out characters that come full circle in an - emotional ending type of movie.
