Quote:
Toy Story is a 1995 American computer-animated family film directed by John Lasseter and featuring the voices of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. The film was co-produced by Ralph Guggenheim and Bonnie Arnold and was distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. It was written by Joss Whedon, Andrew Stanton, Joel Cohen, and Alec Sokolow, and featured music by Randy Newman. It was the first feature film released to use only CGI. Toy Story follows a group of toys who come to life whenever their owner is not present, focusing on Woody, a pull-string cowboy doll (Hanks), and Buzz Lightyear, an astronaut action figure (Allen).

The top-grossing film on its opening weekend, Toy Story went on to earn over $191 million in the United States and Canada during its initial theatrical release and took in more than $361 million worldwide. Reviews were overwhelmingly positive, praising both the technical innovation of the animation and the wit and sophistication of the screenplay.

In addition to DVD releases, Toy Story-inspired material has run the gamut from toys, video games, theme park attractions, spin-offs, and merchandise. The film was so successful it prompted a sequel, Toy Story 2, which became an even bigger hit than the original. Toy Story was re-released on a double feature with Toy Story 2 in Disney Digital 3-D on October 2, 2009, and Toy Story 3 is scheduled for release in theatres on June 18, 2010. Toy Story was selected into the National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" on its first year of eligibility.

Very well-animated, well wirtten with neat humor and good characters, but it isn't one of the best animated flicks ever made neither is it one of Pixar's best. Slightly overrated may I say.

One of my childhood favourites that just seems shallow now when compared to recent animated flicks. It's still funny, and it's got a lot of the multi-generational humour that works so well nowadays, but it's still too hopelessly childish and immature. Still, there's a lot of stuff in it that I understand now a lot better than I did when I was younger. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen give great voice performances, and the entire supporting cast is just as good, and the animation still looks good today. A lot more influential than memorable.

An all-time kid's classic! I've seen it 25+ times and have never ever gotten tired of it. It's timeless...

Best CGI flick of all time and the sequel is right on par, bring on number 3 which I think would give that Ogre a run for its money.

I think the basic genius of the Toy Story franchise was to make it about toys. Toys are shiny, plastic, and fake-looking. That's what CGI often looks like - especially back then.

I think that's why, even today, the Toy Story films look great. Some of the animals and humans you see today look good, but they still have that plasticky quality - the same quality that Woody and Buzz thrive on.

It really is timeless, and for my money still the best CGI film ever. This is one of those films that will define my youth until the day I die. But apart from that, I think the idea of toys as characters is perfect for this type of film, and I consider the characters to be among animation's best. Top 40 of all time material.

Who doesn't like this movie? And if you do, then your opinion doesn't matter. Really, it's an amazing film. Hard to imagine the second one topped this.

Probably Pixar's best, though I like Finding Nemo better.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Slightly overrated as it's hardly one of the best Pixar movies (the sequel is much better and feels more complete as a movie). But it's funny, fairly well animated, with good story and great characters. It's always a joy to watch it again.

Great movie, even better in 3D. I did start to get a headache when they got to Sid's house; I think it was just too dark, since the glasses already darken things as it is. I actually started to nod off because my eyes kept insisting on shutting to get rid of the headache.

But still, the movie was GREAT in 3D.

B, saw this again last night. Cute but still one of the weaker Pixar offerings, ahead of only A Bug's Life, Ratatouille, and Cars.

Really great, it’s not quite my favorite Pixar but from any other studio it would be the best film they’d made.
