Backdraft
Great ensemble. Good film, probably the best about firefighters. Ladder 49 tried to top this, but it kind of stood no chance really. William Baldwin and Kurt Russell make a great partnership/rivalry. De Niro and Sutherland make good supporting roles too. I didn't realise until just now that Ron Howard directed it. My appreciation for him as a director has just been increased. What a great 1990s he had, with Ransom being terrific too.

 Re: Backdraft
One of my least favorite Ron Howard movies - - the story just didn't do it for me.
2 out of 5.

 Re: Backdraft
the movie drags a bit and has some cheesy scenes but the fire sequences are amazing. It looks so real. The FX hold up. Pretty scary as well, you can almost feel the heat and claustrophobia. Also can't go wrong with Kurt Russell or Scott Glenn. And Donald Sutherland is great in his small role. Hans Zimmer's score is fantastic as well.
one thing that bothered me though is the unnecessary R rating. I wondered is why they decided to add a bunch of profanity and brief nudity to get an R rating. I don't see why a movie about the heroics of firemen should be rated R. Probably would have been a bigger hit

 Re: Backdraft
It was released 10 years too early - - if it had been released amidst all the firefighter respect after 9/11, it would have cleaned up at the BO & Oscars.
