A Bronx Tale is a 1993 American crime drama film set in The Bronx during the turbulent era of the 1960s. It was the directorial debut of Robert De Niro, and follows a young Italian-American teenager as his path in life is guided by two father figures, played by De Niro and Chazz Palminteri. It also includes a brief appearance by Joe Pesci. It was written by Palminteri, based partially upon his childhood. The film grossed over $17 million domestically in the box office.

A very underrated movie. Robert DeNiro made his directorial debut and does a fantastic job. This is one of the better mafia movies to come out in the last 15 or so years, ranking right up there with Goodfellas and Casino in my mind.

You know what? It is sort of underrated, and totally not the movie I thought it was. Palminteri's Sonny, in particular, is not at all what I'd anticipated, which allows the movie to move along without getting moralistic...

...until the unfortunate last 5 minutes, when, in a terribly uninteresting turn of events, Sonny finally has to 'face the consequences' of his actions and the movie suddenly does what it's successfully avoided doing: judging its characters. So much for the fascinating moral compexity. The final voiceover was like a punch in the junk. A shame.

It's pretty good, but nothing too memorable. A good first time behind the camera for De Niro, but I was a little bored by this.
