 Mean Girls (2024)
Quote: Mean Girls is a 2024 American musical teen comedy film directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. (in their feature directorial debuts), from a screenplay by Tina Fey. It is based on the Broadway musical of the same name, which in turn was based on Mark Waters's 2004 comedy film, both written by Fey and based on Rosalind Wiseman's 2002 book Queen Bees and Wannabes.[4] It stars Angourie Rice, Auliʻi Cravalho and Christopher Briney with Reneé Rapp reprising her role from the stage musical, while Fey and Tim Meadows reprise their roles from the original film.
Paramount Pictures announced the film's development in January 2020, with Fey returning to write the screenplay and serve as a producer alongside Lorne Michaels, who produced the 2004 film. Composer Jeff Richmond and lyricist Nell Benjamin returned to rework their songs from the stage musical, while Richmond also composed the film's score. Casting began in December 2022. Principal photography took place in New Jersey between March and April 2023. The film was originally set to premiere on the streaming service Paramount+, but in September 2023, the distributor opted to release the film theatrically first after the film received positive test scores.[5]
Mean Girls premiered in New York City on January 8, 2024, and was theatrically released in the United States by Paramount Pictures on January 12. It received generally mixed reviews from critics.[6]

 Re: Mean Girls (2024)
Mean Girls has a fun soundtrack and good performances but it’s script is too similar to the original to entirely justify its own existence.

Yeah I wasn't a fan of this. Kinda impossible to not compare this to the original when it lifts so many lines from it and just doesn't hit on any occasion.

I had a lot of fun with this, that being said I had seen the musical and knew exactly what this was going in. It obviously doesn't touch the original but viewed as an homage it hits a lot of the right beats. Renee Rapp is fantastic and the cameo at the end was iconic. B+

 Re: Mean Girls (2024)
This is a good vehicle for Renee Rapp but just about everything else is awful. It was annoying when they changed things and yet even more cringe when they stayed the same. Felt like listening to a Kids Bop version of a popular song. And speaking of which, all the songs sucked. Every single one.

 Re: Mean Girls (2024)
While it was a difficult ask, this is a pretty poorly executed version of this concept. Other than how the line readings of the famous parts don't match up to the original actors, it's like it's missing small details that make storylines like Regina downfall popularity wise and Kady rise/replacing her make sense, and the relationships don't feel real.
