American Pie
American PieQuote: American Pie is a 1999 teen comedy film written by Adam Herz. American Pie was the directorial film debut of brothers Paul and Chris Weitz, and the first film in the American Pie film series. The film was a box-office hit and spawned two direct sequels: American Pie 2 (2001) and American Wedding (2003).
The film concentrates on four boys who make a pact to lose their virginity before their high school graduation. The film's title refers to a scene in the film in which the lead character is caught masturbating with a pie after previously being told that third base feels like "warm apple pie".
Since the conclusion of the American Pie trilogy, featuring the courtship and marriage of the characters Jim Levenstein and Michelle Flaherty, the American Pie name has gone on to be used as an entity similar to the National Lampoon film series. American Pie has spawned four direct-to-DVD spin-off films bearing the title American Pie Presents: Band Camp (2005), The Naked Mile (2006), Beta House (2007) and The Book of Love (December 2009).
Another theatrical release, the fourth in the series and tentatively entitled American Reunion, was recently announced as being in pre-production for a 2012 release. One of the best comedies ever. A

The best teen comedy in the last decade or so.

I have always thought it was rather overrated. I can see why it has achieves its cult status, but I really didn't think it was all that hilarious. Maybe because some of the best scenes were spoiled in the excessively played trailers and TV spots. I actually think that the second and the third movie are somewhat better. As a matter of fact, I actually think that American Pie 2 is one of the funniest films I have ever seen. This one, on the other hand, is pretty enjoyable, but not much more.

Even though I prefer American Pie II as the best in the series, this one is still pretty great.

I liked it a lot, but as far as the gross out comedies, its not the best, and not the best in the series. But still very funny and had some really classic parts

I'd say it was probably the best teen comedy of the 90s. It's also the best in the series although I did enjoy the three sequels quite a bit.

A classic in its own right. There's a certain innocence about it that keeps it from becoming offensive, even during the crewdest of moments. However, even though the film's juvenility is forgivable, the slew of copycat teen movies that followed as a result isn't.

It was good for what it was, but in the end, it owes all of it's success to ANIMAL HOUSE or PORKY'S.. It had it's moments and in fairness, I'd give it a "B"..

A very funny and occasionally witty movie, with a surprisingly accurate depiction of high school life. Full of lots of hilarious moments, but it has to resort to gross-out moments too often to garner a laugh. Still, it made me laugh.

So funny...somewhat ruined by the movies that followed (The direct-to-DVD ones).

This was a suprisingly good movie, I dismissed it as crap when it was first released and caught it on dvd much later.
This was a very funny and memorable (although raunchy) movie*
*this in no way applies to any of the sequels

An excellent teen film with a witty, original screenplay and a likable cast. I may be one of the few that actually prefers the second installment, however.

Re: American Pie
it's so incredibly outdated by this point (seriously...the choir shit...ugh...), yet some of it remains so timelessly hilarious and true. The webcam scene has to rank as one of the funniest scenes in movie history. I don't think this is even close to being the best teen comedy ever, but I can't think of a scene in even Superbad that is both that funny and embarrassing (although a few come close).

Re: American Pie
The second best of the series - - just behind the masterpiece American Wedding - - a groundbreaker in the low comedy genre...

Re: American Pie
I saw this movie back when I was ten years old and it is still one of my favorite movies. All of the characters are portrayed perfectly and the script is hysterical. I've probably seen this at least 100 times and I never get tired of it.

Just rewatched this and still love it. It was an iconic film for me when it was released, thus the nostalgia factor is high, but I still find it hilarious now and what a great cast it had.

A- 100%. Have fond memories seeing it when I was about the age of the characters (OK a few years older).
