Osborne, among others. The plot is based on Rapanui legends of Easter Island, Chile, in particular the race for the Sooty Tern's egg in the Birdman Cult. The historic details of this film are questionable, but the central theme—the destruction of the island's irreplaceable forests—is well authenticated.

This one played for exactly one week in a giant theatre in my town, and I was lucky enough to see it - but by the time I talked it up with friends, it was already gone. There's not enough historical drama on so-called "primitive" cultures - there's a lot to be learned... 5 out of 5.
