Quote:
Proof of Life is a 2000 American film, directed by Taylor Hackford. The title refers to a phrase commonly used to indicate proof that a kidnap victim is still alive. The film's screenplay was authored by Tony Gilroy, who also was a co-executive producer, and was inspired by William Prochnau's Vanity Fair magazine article "Adventures in the Ransom Trade," and the book The Long March To Freedom by Thomas Hargrove in which Hargrove recounts how his release was negotiated by Thomas Clayton, played by Russell Crowe, who went on to be the founder of kidnap-for-ransom consultancy Clayton Consultants, Inc.

The picture stars Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe. It is perhaps best remembered as the film during which the two lead actors had a romantic affair. At the time of filming, Ryan was married to Dennis Quaid, but the two divorced in 2001. The film garnered much reportage in the tabloid press in association with the lead actors' affair. The film is dedicated to Will Gaffney, an actor who was David Morse's stand-in. He was killed in an on-set accident during a scene in which Morse was not available, due to a family illness.

Meh. It was alright, but not one of Crowe's better flicks.

Yeah, enjoyable, but a step down from his other uber projects at the time.

It is a black mark on Russell Crowe's filmography. It did not succeeed at the box-office and it wasn't a good movie to begin with either. It starts off very prmising, but the more the film progresses, the more boring it gets. I saw it with a friend of mine at a theatre. He walked out about 40 minutes into the movie. I stayed, but around the 50 minutes mark, I kept nodding off for about 20 minutes. I rewatched it about a year later and it was still just as tedious and boring. Crowe delivers a good performance, as always, but he lacks any chemistry with Ryan (and they became a couple during THIS? hehe). Ryan herself is very unimpressive, one of her worst performance. The entire movie seems so uninspired and run-off-the-mill.
