King Kong

I'm amazed this has reached 21 pages. Must be the longest "review" thread in WOKJ history.

The film is terrific. First hour is just as amazing as the next two, in my opinion. I love watching it whenever it's on TV. Nothing pisses me off about this movie apart from us not seeing how they got him from the land to the ship to the stage etc. But I suppose it was already long enough.

See, I love that transition. The entire final act is FLAWLESS though.

The inclusion of dinosaurs, and everything that happens on the island is pretty much brilliant. The odd/weird/death people are great, as is the creepy crawlies in the pit. Jamie Bell is fantastic. Brody and Watts have never acted better, well Watts was amazing in 21 Grams, but apart from that. Serkis over-acted, again..brilliant. Love a bit of overacting. When they got off the island it was also great, I just needed the transition. I was so into the movie in the cinema that I just needed to see more. No biggie, though, and I still adore the movie. It is among Jackson's best. Not sure how I rate it among his movies, but it's better and much more enjoyable than Fellowship of the Ring, that's for sure.

Nah, first ten minutes from Fellowship alone are better than Kong. :P

I think the longest review thread is The Dark Knight with 70 pages. Children of Men was pretty strong too.

At first, I felt reluctant to that weird inclusion in Jackson's Kong, but when I saw the scene in theaters I was overwhelmed

Kind of like Avengers or a Nolan movie, one of those films which just rocked in theaters! This was amazing on the big screen.

Quiet, you. This is one of those films where it is obvious the studio spared no expense. Everything is as well done as it could have been for the time. The effects, the music, the art- nothing about the film is rushed, and it pays off. Yes, Hugh Jackman would have been better than Adrien Brody. Sure, Kevin Spacey would have been better than Jack Black. But it all works. The beginning is slow, but it sets the 2nd and 3rd acts.

After one viewing, one pretty much skip everything leading up to their arrival at the island. Then it just 2 hours of non stop awesomeness.

Jack Black was amazing as the ambitious yet dim director.

I just rewatched it tonight. I hadn't seen it in several years. While it is without a doubt too long (they should have taken stuff out of the before-the-island part and the while-on-the-island part), it is still quite good. The last third, when they're back in New York is VERY good and also very touching. 30 minutes shorter, it would have been an awesome movie.

Still, if there's another Kong movie some day, I hope they make him really huge, like 100 feet tall.

The finale of this had me bawling. :tears:

I thought the movie was great, but yes, it could have been trimmed.

My biggest problem with the film is that you spend the latter half with a knot in your throat knowing what would happen. The second half is fantastic. The first half on the island with all the bugs etc was a little bloated and could have been cut back. Still I look forward to re-watching it soon.
