thompsoncory wrote: KISS KISS BANG BANG - 9/10 (A-)One of the strongest films of 2005 and a major surprise! I LOVED it! It was hilarious and I laughed out loud tons of times. The acting was great as well, with Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer turning in excellent comedic performances. This movie never takes itself too seriously and that's what makes it work. It's a sharply written and stylish movie that sneaks up on you with its irresistible charm. One of the most fun films I've seen in a while. Highly recommended to just about everyone. Here are some of my favorite quotes/one-liners from the movie: Perry: Thanks for coming, please stay for the end credits, if you're wondering who the best boy is, it's somebody's nephew, um, don't forget to validate your parking, and to all you good people in the Midwest, sorry we said fuck so much.
Perry: He called her a....well, bad word.
Harry (Robert Downey Jr.): Still gay? Perry: No, knee-deep in pussy. I just love the name so much I can't get rid of it.
Harry: Do you think I'm stupid? Perry: I don't think you'd know where to put food at, if you didn't flap your mouth so much. Yes I think you're stupid.
Harmony (Michelle Monaghan): For starters, she's been fucked more times than she's had a hot meal. Harry: Yeah, I heard about that. It was neck-and-neck and she skipped lunchHaha, great movie!
Just FYI to everyone else > Michelle Monaghan is the girl who play's Tom Cruise's girlfriend in Mission Impossible 3 - the trailer is out now > if you look at her resume she has about 6 good or big movies in a 2 year span.
I said before that she might be the It girl.

Since my first viewing I have checked it out in theatres twice more. I rarely ever see movies in theatres twice and I have only seen four movies in my life three times in theatres actually. It just keeps getting better. I settle my grade at A- for now. What a rewatchable and quotable movie! The screenplay and Val Kilmer were robbed at the Oscars.

Seen it three times in theatres....but the German DVD release is bare bones (the US one has at least some featurette), so I'm not getting. Moreover, this movie just screams for a great Special Edition..I see one coming out one day.
The movie has crawled up all the way to my #8 of 2005.

This is a cult classic in the making.

That's good. You must know, though, that this movie improves on multiple viewings.

I'm a little befuddled by the movie as I expected much less than it gave me. In fact, my first semi-viewing through (I had to stop in the middle for unrelated reasons unfortunately) I was much more passive with it than the movie demanded.
In that way, it's a bit like Moulin Rouge!, which I would say is a good thing.
So I will have to watch it again.
The screenplay is really great, and fun though.

Screenplay is the best original screenplay of any movie last year.
Val Kilmer should have been nominated for an Oscar.
Excellent film. Glad you agree, andaroo

Wow, I wanted to see this movie for so long and I finally did. Its the best film of 2005 in my opinion. I absolutely loved it. It was kinda like Kaufman meets Tarantino meets Richie. Where as gangster films have been trying to mimic pulp fiction and Lock Stock for the last decade, this is truly original and loved it. A+, my only of the year other than Sin City.

Its energy is just non-stop.
I kind of want to watch it again, though. There's a lot there I feel like I missed.

Disappointed. Downey Jr.'s character is annoying as is his narration. Some funny lines but it feels pretentious as if Black is showing off how clever he is instead of actually crafting a flowing narrative. I was bored more often than not.

I will say that the snarky narration, stopping the film reel and all, has been done before -- and better -- in The Emperor's New Groove.
"Um, what's up with the monkey...?"
But still, I thought Robert Downey, Jr. was pretty funny.

Was it the best movie of 2005? Maybe
Was it the most enjoyable movie of 2005? Hell Yes

The dialogue was pretty great at times. Not gonna deny that.
But I didn't feel like it was ever genius. Lots of sly quips and such, but I realized I was laughing more at bodies hitting dumpsters and people peeing on corpses but otherwise just kind of amused by the quick dialogue.
And again, narration? Leave it to David Spade.
Like I said, though, it has great energy. And Downey, Jr. and Michelle Monaghan, who gives a performance here as if she's been doing this for years (she's awesome), are great.

KKBB was seriously to damn awesome. The dialogue between Robert Downey and Val Kilmer was flippin' hilarious, every interaction between them was great and brilliant acting, such a shame that this movie didnt have any sort of recognition by the academy.
It was the most entertaining movie i've seen in a long time that doesnt contain amazing especial FX's. BEST MOVIE OF 2005
A+ -It will have a special place in my Top 10-20 (got to check the list ) of All Time
