Stand by Me is a 1986 American drama film directed by Rob Reiner. Based on the novella The Body by Stephen King, the film takes its title from the song of the same name by Ben E. King (which plays over the end credits).

We were talking about this in Lit. the other day... I'm curious as to the big "shocker" that I'm convinced this film has to have. I'm totally going to rent it soon.

Saw this for the first time yesterday and thought it was absolutely wonderful. All of the child actors were FANTASTIC. A

I'm not too fond of it, like most Stephen King adaptations. This one has the added bonus of being based on one of King's weaker efforts.

Rented it a couple months ago, highly impressed. The four kids were amazing, and it was funny to see Keifer in such a young role, but still so good. It's one of those movies that truly feel like an escape.

Grade: A-

Very enjoyable film. Better than the novella its based on.

That's because you have no soul and you were never 12.

Beautiful film. The interaction between the kids is so genuine, unlike any other 50s coming-of-age story.

A bunch of kids go into the woods and occasionally cry about stuff.

I get why it held in such high esteem, if you were a child during the 80s or 50s this would basically speak directly to you. Watching it as an adult in 2019 didn't give me much though. I barely remember the things I did when I was 12 and wouldn't say anything changed my life.

I can still appreciate the craft of the film, the relationship between the two main characters (at least enough to be saddened by the end) and the music.

Loved this. Rob Reiner was really on fire when he was younger, the tone and pacing of this is perfect, and the relationship between Wil Wheaton and River Phoenix’s character really works. I also really enjoyed Kiefer as the charismatic villain.
