 Re: The Rental
I thought the last couple of minutes and in particular the end credits were the creepiest and most unnerving scenes in this entire film, but other than that it fell pretty flat for me to be honest which is disappointing after all the praise I have seen for this online. I like the cast and the performances are fine, but I didn't care about any of the characters and really I found none of them to be all that likable either, especially Dan Stevens and Sheila Vand's characters.
The whole first hour of this movie is nothing but people arguing and boring melodrama and while I don't mind a good build-up the horror element came into play way too late IMO.

 Re: The Rental
I enjoyed this a ton. Very well-shot and intriguing. Kind of didn't want it to end. Also was really rooting for Alison Brie's or Jeremy Allen White's characters to survive. The other two not so much. Would definitely watch a sequel. 8/10 On a side-note I was really happy I saw Chris Stuckmann's review and he said it's mostly a relationship drama and then a slasher in the last 10 minutes. I think the horror kicks in before that but I do agree that a good chunk of it is a relationship drama. His review lowered my expectations but was surprised by how invested I was in the tension between the couples early on.

 Re: The Rental
I liked the direction and easily distinguishable two parts of the movie. When the horror starts its creepy with perfect setting possible but it ends very quickly, would have loved to see more struggle or characters realizing that something is happening (they were good friends after all before the weekend).
The relationship drama is believable but then again the character motivations not as much and the transition from drama to horror lands with a thud (we hear the recordings now they are broken up let's kill them separately...just ticking a box rather than organically moving into next phase).
The 4 actors are really good here and Dave Franco does very well in his directorial debut but ultimately not as good as it could have been.

 Re: The Rental
I think it would have been cool if one of the main 4 were involved. Especially would have liked if it were Alison Brie's character.

 Re: The Rental
This had a strong build up but the transition to being a slasher never makes any sense and requires the main characters to suddenly become morons. Hey Im Alison Brie and I see that a spike trap has destroyed my wheels so my solution is to get back in the car! Then I’m gonna text my friends and not mention the spike trap! Wtf. And if he was just gonna hammer them all then wtf was the point of the cameras and microphones? So fucking stupid. Ruined an otherwise solid movie.
