I don't think I've heard the Jack/Rose romance as "teenybopper"... ever.

Ya know, I really like going back and fourth with you and fucking around with you but no. Go away. You are so, so wrong. EVERYBODY saw this movie when it came out. EVERYONE.

Re: Titanic
It is dangerous to say, "EVERYONE has seen it," regardless of how much money was earned or how many Oscars were won. Particularly when one has spent so long inside film-nerd bubbles. There are legions upon legions of people out there who have never seen Titanic or, say, Pulp Fiction or Gone with the Wind or Terminator 2 or Goodfellas and so on and so forth.

663,763 people have rated Titanic on IMDb. 1,094,103 have rated Pulp Fiction. BOOM.

Re: Titanic
Titanic had so many repeat viewings upon repeat viewings. I suspect the same amount of people saw Titanic back in 1998 that saw Return of the King in 2004, and you wouldn't say it was weird if somebody hadn't see that one.

Re: Titanic
Titanic sold 128 million tickets in its initial run and there were 273 million people in the U.S. at the time. With many repeat viewings, there are likely 175 million Americans who have not seen Titanic. But this is an absolutely pointless silly discussion purely meant to defame me and make me look dumb, so I think we can end it.

The millions who didn't see it in theaters in its initial run (including my 6-year-old self) saw it on VHS!

Was watching this on TV earlier tonight. This movie is truly iconic. It deserves to be the highest grossing film over Avatar and Star Wars, mainly because I cannot remember any movie that has had as much of a cultural impact as this one in history.

The cultural impact of the first Star Wars film or the Star Wars franchise as a whole is about 100 times bigger than Titanic's.

Even so Titanic's impact still feels about 10x bigger than Avatar's in the long run.

100x? No. Maybe 2 or three times.

Sure. Avatar had very little impact.

Star Wars changed planet Earth. Nothing compares.
Titanic is #2.
Avatar is a mile behind TDK and a few more for biggest pop culture impact of the 2000s, let alone history.

Titanic nor Avatar had much "cultural" impact, sure they blew up at the box office, but I see very little effect of it on society. Star Wars, even not a fan myself, has created obvious roots. No-one quotes Avatar and I believe Titanic gets hardly quoted either. There's definitely at least 10 other films in between Star Wars and either of these other 2 films in terms of cultural impact.

Re: Titanic
Titanic, despite nearing 20 years of age, is not quite in "nostalgia" territory yet, I feel. Leo is still HUGE while Cameron and Winslet are both very famous. It doesn't get quoted, sure, but c'mon. Everybody knows the song. Many people think of the movie before the actual ship when the hear the word "Titanic".
