Re: The Ring
It's still as effectively creepy and disturbing as it was the first time I saw it. It's a toss-up between this and The Mist for my favorite horror movie of the decade. Naomi Watts is great in the lead role, and the opening scene and scene where Samara comes out of the TV and kills Noah are incredibly freaky. A-

Re: The Ring
You don't need spoiler tags in this forum, especially for a movie that's six years old.
And The Mist? Really? Yuck.

Re: The Ring
The Mist seemed to be divisive, and I was one of the people who had a blast watching it, especially in black and white on DVD.

Re: The Ring
I finally watched my copy of The Ring on Blu-ray. It looked terrific! I hadn't seen it in years so it was great to see it again and in high-def. This movie is really fantastic. I have such fond memories of seeing it theatrically. It's so well-made. The atmosphere is perfect. The cinematography, score, directing, etc... are all superb. So is Naomi Watts in the lead. This is easily one of my favorite horror films. None of the imitators even came close in quality. It's just a shame the sequel was such a huge disappointment.
Even if VHS tapes are a thing of the past this movie still holds up amazingly well. I also watched the short film "Rings" for the first time, which was really neat. Made me wish I wouldn't have sold my copy of The Ring Two so I could re-watch it. I'd bought that for cheap but never really felt like revisiting it after my theatrical viewing as I found the film to be such a disappointment.
I wonder if they'll ever revisit this series. I'm almost surprised they haven't since it's not like the second did bad. Just a little underwhelming. I'd be interested in seeing another if it were a good one. It would never happen but it would be great to see Gore Verbinski returning to the helm.
I believe I've always given this an A but I'm upping my rating to an A+.

Re: The Ring
I was able to see this again theatrically today and it's honestly just as good as it was 21 years ago. It 100% holds up and is pretty perfectly made top to bottom. Definitely one of the best horror films ever.
