Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Chamber of SecretsQuote: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is a 2002 fantasy film directed by Chris Columbus and based on the novel of the same name by J. K. Rowling. It is the second instalment in the Harry Potter film series, and is written by Steve Kloves and produced by David Heyman. The film stars Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, alongside Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as Harry's best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The supporting cast features Richard Harris, Kenneth Branagh, Jason Isaacs, Christian Coulson and Robbie Coltrane.
It was released on 15 November 2002 in the UK and North America. The film was very well received at the box office, making $879 million USD worldwide. It was nominated for three BAFTA Film Awards in 2003. A step up from the mediocre original, but still not quite great. B-

Large improvement over the first film. The pacing seems better, and the action is better as well (the scene with the spiders in the forest was very well done, IMO). Still not quite up to par with what I can expect from the series as a whole, but still worthwhile nonetheless.
I give it a B.

This movie was lucky as it was the adaptation of the series' weakest novel and therefore the expectations were not too high. In any case, the movie was somewhat of an improvement over the first flick, even though it still failed to capture the magic of the novels. The cast is still great and Branagh was a goodd choice for Lockhart. However, the best new cast entry was Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy. Perfect casting choice.
All-around the movie was a little better than the first. Th acting by the kids slightly improved, the effects were a bit better and the movie had more flow to it. Decent movie for the whole family, but still a disappointing Harry Potter film.

A definite improvement over the mediocre first film, I enjoy watching this film they cut out the parts that felt unnecessary while reading the book, thus making this a fine adaption

A-, mainly due to Jason Isaacs and especially Kenneth Branagh (and the fact I'm a Lockhart fangirl, a rare breed).

Helped largely by the improvement in acting, a creepier plot, darker visuals, better special effects and a more action-packed storyline, Chamber of Secrets is quite an improvement over the first movie. It drags on quite a bit though with some very unnecessary scenes and is still way too sugar coated. B+/B

Better than the original, with the inspired casting of Kenneth Branagh and James Isaacs. It still lacks the heart of the books, though, and feels pretty paint-by-numbers in its storytelling.

Re: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Improving on the first, I agree with the consensus here, especially thoughts on James Isaacs. He's even better as Lucius than Rickman as Snape.

Jason Isaacs guys
I'm gonna rewatch as well. I was 14 at the start of the series, so I think my tastes matured as the films themselves did as I did enjoy the first two but haven't watched them since there releases.

Here is James Isaacs not sure if he would have been right for the role

No. But he would've made a great Gilderoy Lockhart.

Re: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
The casting of Lockhart was easily the worst among the DADA teachers.

Re: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Isaacs and Branagh definitely make this better than the first, even though it's still not very good.

I agree with the praises given to Isaacs and Branagh, though I also think the film is better because it actually has a mystery and plot to help move things along. It's a shame Chambers is so goddamn long though.

Re: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
I don't know if it's the nostalgia factor but rewatching the first two they really aren't as bad as people say, they're actually quite enjoyable. Yes there are many cringe worthy things about them but the visuals and special effects are surprisingly not that dated.

Re: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
This movie is truly wonderful and magical! The Chamber of Secrets is one of the weaker Harry Potter books, but it certainly ranks up there with the best of the films. The plot is very good, just like the first one, there's really not that much to be said about it. New characters like Lucius Malfoy, Gilderoy Lockhart and Dobby add to this already wonderful universe. The acting is great by all, even the kids. The special effects are great, especially the spider scene, which I was surprised to find out that Aragog was a puppet, not CGI. Awesome! This movie plants many seeds that will be very important down the line, like wizard prejudice against different types of blood, Horcuxes, Fawkes, and more. Just overall so great.
A++++
