This was a good movie, it induced strong feelings of disgust and rage towards the villians and cheers towards the murdering heros. It's simplistic, but alluring visuals and some solid acting create one of the better recent horror films I've seen, which is saying very little. I felt the rape added a heightened sense of loathing towards the murderers because there was another female present who encouraged the rape and that the kid simply watched and did nothing in her defense. The fact that the girl was hot did not add anything towards my disgust of the murdering rapists. Rape is rape regardless of sex or attractiveness; I would have felt the same level of disgust if she was only moderately good-looking. Did I like her more as a character because of her looks? Of course.

I am sad I missed BKB's rants in this thread when they were new. Classic.

Disturbing, terrifying, beautiful. Much better than the POS original.

Well, except for that head-in-microwave business.

The Last House on the Left (2009)
A sick and twisted film that really has no place being made. These types of films certainly do not help Hollywood in its crusade to claim complete and utter innocence in destroying society and making it more open to violence. This film falls into the same category as The Devil's Rejects, Eden Lake and The Hills Have Eyes remake. I have no problem with violence too, but to drag out such explicit violence just doesn't get me excited like it does with horror perverts. I liked everything about Tony Goldwyn's character, though, and the hammer in the head was neatly done. I actually have a vague memory of seeing this before. Perhaps I watched it in the UK, and maybe I turned it off near the rape scene because after that scene I don't remember anything, it was all new to me. But I certainly remember everything leading up to it.
I don't understand the title of the movie. There was no reference to the 'last house on the left' in the entire movie, and the white house in the woods is alone, so it can't be the 'last' house, it's the 'only' house!
The head in the microwave was an interesting end. Though the copy I watched, being that I am in China, was severely cut in two scenes; during the rape scene I was not even sure that she had been raped as it was cut so much (but I know she was because of the UK copy I must have seen before), and Sadie's death in the bedroom was completely removed (and the scenes afterwards that presumably show her dead). If anyone can answer what actually happened to her, I'd like to know. Was it so sick that it warranted removal? I find it odd because a lot of other sick stuff was kept in. Overall, this is a wholly unoriginal remake that relies too heavily on torture porn and shock tactics...

B-
The original TLHotL is horrible. So, it didn't take much for the remake to impress me. I liked the serious tone taken here, where the original was more light-hearted. The acting here easily blows away the original cast.
It's a good horror film, but Aja's Hills Have Eyes is still the best horror remake, imo.
