Nearly every action scene in X3 was better IMO. I disagree with that statement. The action sequences in X2 are top-notch, all of them. Nightcrawler scene alone beats X3, and add in the mansion fight and Wolverine v. Deathstrike, X2 is far surprior than X3 in terms of action. The only thing X3 has over X2 is that its more funny. We must have different tastes, but Wolverine and Deathstrike was pretty crappy IMO. That action scene in the house, or the finale for X3 were both better IMO then everything in the first two movies. Ratner does a great job using the special effects, cinematography, and pace in the action. X2 didn't really have any action that looked like it really belonged in this decade. X3 looked at least as good visually as the best music videos. So, X3's action is going to become dated more quickly then X2's?
IMO, X2's action was dated in 1998.

Based on the terrible trailers, I'm far from impressed.

Is that any type of consensus, I wonder?
(That's a question to you all, please answer now.) Yes I concur. It just came across as less serious than the previous 2. On another note, do you all think that this is really the "Last Stand" for the series or do you expect an X-4 aside from the planned spin-offs? I'd like to see Ratner get another crack at it. If not him, my favorite director David R. Ellis would also be a good choice and as a former stunt cordinator, he knows how to handle action sequences as he was the second unit director on The Matrix films, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Deep Blue Sea, Exit Wounds, and more. I really think he could handle it with ease. He's also known for injecting sly humor into his films, which is a plus.
Yeah, I'd like Ellis.

What a piece of shit?
I have not been disappointed in a movie this badly since The Ring 2. The setup of the first two movies is completely thrown out of the window. The script is pathetic and Singer's absence is glaring.
20 Years ago... 10 years ago.. WTF?
Scott, Xavier, JG/Pho. The ending is poor attempt at a future possibilty for a X-men return.
On the plus side, Jackman has some one liners that elicit laughs. Unfortunately so does this movie.

It shouldn't take 4 trailers to sell something like Superman.

I think the movie was great. Lots of action, some good humour and great CGI.
I give it A-.

I agree with DP07's assessment - ever since Usual Suspects, Bryan Singer couldn't direct his Mom out of a shopping mall parking lot...

I did and it sucks the chrome off a bumper.. WB and Bryan Singer will wish they never even conceived the idea of resurrecting the SUPERMAN franchise cause the "Christopher Reeve Effect" will kill this movie in a heart beat..

You also found Ultraviolet enjoyable.
This alone discredits any opinion you could ever attempt giving.

Not of one Two.
The X-Men films are highly overrated. Yes, the second one was good. But good does not mean anything more than 'good', to state the obvious.

If anything, Spider-Man is highly overrated. The second one was boring (kind of like X2 in a way...). Tobey Maguire is no longer right for the role and Kirsten Dunst has always been annoying. How she could be the object of anyone's desire is confounding. The first was good (Green Goblin's costume though has always sucked. It looks like plastic.) but the second was underwhelming. They could have done more with Dr. Octopus.

Spider-Man's quality is completely irrelevant to this discussion. I did not bring Spider-Man into this discussion, and my opinions regarding X-Men are not formed with respect of the Spider-Man films.

Well I guess I should qualify that I am not a huge comic book movie fan... I love Superman and X2 but beyond that the results are very mixed, especially the output from the last few years...
...but after all the negativity thrown at Ratner, and my downloads of some unimpressive scenes (like the Sentinal sequence) I have to say that I think X3 is about on par with X-Men. Not quite. This is the yin and yang of the series... where the first film had relatively shoddy set pieces it excelled on the characters... X3 uses Singer's established work and doesn't build much on it, but gives some action set pieces worthy of the series.
Regarding the characters... I thought for the most part Wolverine, Magneto, Jean Grey and even Storm and Beast were handled in an acceptible manner. I did like Charles' momentary breaks and I liked the arc of Wolverine's and Jean's relationship. Halle Berry was probably the best overall in this film although she has some shining moments with Nightcrawler in X2.
Personally, I really like what me and my friends call "Singer's X-Men Universe". X-Men has been done so many times that you can really do whatever you want to the characters... and I respect the fact that the powers stay as grounded as possible. I don't mind the fact that the story thus far has primarily been focused on Magneto and Logan... I think in a series like this, you have to bite the bullet and define central characters.
I don't even mind that they axed Cyclops, who, lets face it, was poorly casted and poorly plotted in all three movies, not just this one. I would have liked to get a stronger impression that his death pushes Jean into the Phoenix persona more. So the reaction to Scott's supposed death is a ton underplayed.
I would have loved to see Rogue get a few more scenes (with whomever) and I think for the most part Bobby and Kitty get enough screentime considering these films really aren't about them. Colossus may as well not exist... I think he gets about as much dialog in this film as he did X2... It would be nice to see him get some extended action scenes and a little bit more screentime as he is part of the final 6... the X-Men team as exists. Even Angel's on and off character didn't bother me... perhaps we could have done without the (well filmed) introduction and then there wouldn't be this need to make him a bigger character.
I would have also liked to see a Nightcrawler cameo so we can be sure that he like... still exists.
But overall it's not as clever or well scripted as X-Men, but its quality is not far off and has the best action of the series other than Nightcrawler's White House invasion and Wolverine vs. Deathstryke. Visually... it's on par with the first two and the special effects only seem to be getting better. The acting isn't too far off the other two either.
The thing that's wrong with it is just that it needed to be longer and it needed to actually slow down a bit and give a bit more to the cure story.
Mystique should also have been given a closing scene. She is a pretty big character.

I want to know who was the lucky son of bitch that found Mystique all naked. thats the biggest problem, Cyclops, Mystique, and Rogue, its not that werent good, but they just were given justified ends other than Rogue.
