 Re: Spider-Man 3
Well, whatever the case, you are wrong. Phantom Menace is much worse, and so is Attack of the Clones.

 Re: Spider-Man 3
They were bad films and AOTC does come close however they had some fun parts.
TPM has the racing scene and the Duel of the Fates...
Aotc did get decent when Obi-Wan goes off on his adventure to find out about the clones.
Spiderman 3 messed up everything, the villains, the heroes and the acting was just as bad.
I don't know why I hated the film so much, but it may be that I watched Godfather on AMC before it. So I just watched some of the best acting ever and then I saw Spiderman 3...

 Re: Spider-Man 3
I found spiderman itself to be decent at best...
It was because even when I watched spiderman 2 which I really liked the first time, I found my self bored to death watching it the 2nd time and I could not finish the first spiderman when I watched it the 2nd time...
Anyway, I really liked Spiderman 2 and many found it to be good and everyone was hyped for a better part and not only was it nowhere as good, it was horrendous.

and really, if you take out the dancing and the butler and one of the villains, you've dealt with the majority of the film's problems. The story was where things went wrong. Those are three REALLY BIG THINGS! Isn't the story half of what brought people into the theaters!? It felt to me like Raimi and company said "fuck the audience" and half-assed this thing to the big screen, because it is so damn sloppy and cheesy. They could've put that Asian woman playing the violin on screen for 2 hours and they'd make 300 million, and they knew that. While I didn't love Spider-man, and I was one out of few apparently who feels Spider-man 2 loses its aurora after a second or third viewing, Spider-man 3 still gets put to shame when compared to either of its two predecessors.

 Re: Spider-Man 3
I watched this again the other night on HBO or CINEMAX or some channel like that and I'll say that it really didn't hold up well for as much of a pedestal as I put it on, but then again, after a damn near flawless movie like SPIDERMAN 2 was in terms of the over the top action, there really was no way this movie would've lived up to that.. 336 Million Domestically is still pretty damn good but not as good as what SM2 grossed.. That having been said, I'm ready to progress to the next phase in terms of casting and director for a new step in a different direction.. Hmmm, perhaps MARVEL Studios will do the next one instead of SONY since MARVEL owns the rights to their own characters?? Heaven knows they did a bang up job with IRONMAN and now looks like the HULK is getting the great WOM treatment to.. Do the whole character crossover angle in the next SPIDERMAN.. How cool would that be???

I think it's more that Raimi, like George Lucas, is a good director but not a very good writer. This time around, he (and his brother) wrote the film alone (instead of having someone like David Koepp or the guy who did SM2), and the writing is basically what killed this film with audiences. They just got WAY too overconfident with Spider-man's popularity, thinking that whatever they did at this point would work.

 Re: Spider-Man 3
We already said everything there was to say about this film, haven't we? It was bad, and a really missed opportunity. Had this brought to a close what Spider-Man 1 initiated and Spider-Man 2 continued, it would have reached the zenith of comic book filmmaking.

 Re: Spider-Man 3
This movie really ruined the Spider-Man series. If it hadn't been such a monumental disappointment I believe they would have made another direct sequel and not re-booted the series. About the only scene I remember is this cringe-inducing scene of Peter dancing down the street. Wow was that embarrassing. I didn't HATE the movie, I gave it a B-, but it was such a huge drop in quality from the other two.

 Re: Spider-Man 3
I'm gonna have to re-read why I gave this an A at the time. Maybe it was just the hype. Today, I'd give it a B.

The rare sequel that retroactively makes the previous movies worse.

 Re: Spider-Man 3
Spider Man 3 really hurt the franchise.
Before I remember people used to sing the praises of spider man 1 and 2.
Not anymore.

I love the first two films! The first one has it's cheesy moments but it has something about it...it just makes you feel good, everything fits.

 Re: Spider-Man 3
2nd film is so much cheesier than the first and even the third, but had a better story and villians
I still cringe more at the "raindrops keep fallin" or the asian baby being able to save Peter from a burning building than anything else. It still baffles me that people even consider it the best superhero film, let alone comic book film. 1st is easily the best in the series, and thats still quite a bit below X2, BB, BR, TDK, X1, XFC, V4V, IM, TA, STM, etc

I love the Asian baby scene! It's a comic book film about a guy with spider powers, it's going to be a bit cheesy.

 Re: Spider-Man 3
Lol I had fun reading all 20 pages of this thread. Thank you guys for that, but anyways I remember this movie being such a soul crushing disappointment when I first saw it in theaters. I honestly wanted to walk out, but watching this again I'll admit I don't hate as much. It's still a pretty terrible film with some horrendous editing and way too many WTF moments, but the action sequences are decent and I really do like the Sandman birth scene. J.K. Simmons is the only consistently good thing in these movies, while everybody else is at their absolute lowest, especially Maguire, Dunst and Franco. I thought Thomas Haden Church was actually good performance wise, but as a villain he wasn't very interesting. I also usually like Topher Grace, but he was an awful choice for Eddie Brock/Venom and while Bryce Dallas Howard looked hot she had nothing to do and only made an already convoluted, mess of a film even worse.
