 Re: Lion (2016)
I speak Hindi and yes the motivations were sinister, there is actually a slight talk on phone if I remember by the guy (just a side talk, nothing confirmed) of selling him but its not clear if that's for sex or general slavery but the touching part pretty much points to the former.

What a lovely movie. Very touching. I was tearing up at the end. Sunny is a great find.

 Re: Lion (2016)
Well, he is Indian. His ancestry and genealogy is 100% Indian. He just happened to be born in London.

 Re: Lion (2016)
You did not ask me, but if you did my response would probably be Om Puri. Unfortunately he is no longer with us, so I'd choose Irrfan Khan, Aamir Khan, or Suraj Sharma. I do not know many Indian actors unless they have featured in western films.

But yes for the male actors doing English movies it would be either Om Puri or Irrfan Khan. Dev Patel hasn't convincingly pulled a Hindi movie on his name by the way and Slumdog Millionaire/Lion/The Man Who Knew Infinity/Marigold sequels are not Hindi movies. If you go to Hindi movie industry I won't even put Dev Patel in Top 100 at this point. Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan are the top Indian actors at this point.
