 Re: The Angry Birds Movie
While I agree with them being same characters, I disagree on Sudekis > Bateman. Red is one of the most generic animation characters written and used in the script, while I won't say Nick is innovative in writing style but his use in the film is.

One is using his wits in the big city and the other just wants to be left alone, but they share many similarities. Red and Nick both essentially just want to be included, as is seen throughout both films, but struggle to find inclusion so use defence instead. Did you even watch the films or are you just grading movies based on YouTube clips of each? I actually don't know what I meant with that when I wrote it, but I think it I said that referring to one being the protagonist and the other a side-kick...

It's a fucking Angry Birds movie, not Inception! It is so refreshing to get a character like Red. Most animated characters are boring as shit, super-positive animals that wake up with a smile on their face. Red is more human, as an angry bird, than any other animated character in any other film I've seen.

 Re: The Angry Birds Movie
Red is pretty much the dullest character in the game; in the film he's awesome though. They did a good job with Chuck and Bomb too, as far as game adaptions go, Angry Birds might be the best?

 Re: The Angry Birds Movie
Are there even characters in the game? Isn't it just muted birds flying through the air? Not really much space for characterization. Is he even called "Red" in the game? Isn't it just multiple red birds that all look alike..? I've played the games, but maybe I've not played THE game..

 Re: The Angry Birds Movie
God, this movie was absolute torture to sit through, easily the worst animated film (and film in general) of the year so far, and among the worst I have ever seen. The characters are all either bland or completely unlivable, a coherent plot is nowhere to be found, and the whole thing lacks any substance to get the viewer involved with what was going on. The only thing it has going for it was some pretty colors. This film is a prime example of everything wrong with kids movies today.

It simply was not interesting in the least and there is absolutely no reason to care about a single character. Red is supposed to be sympathetic, but the birds are mean to him for no apparent good reason and it makes them all seem like assholes.

 Re: The Angry Birds Movie
Either you did not watch the film or you did not understand it. That much is clear. But anyway, why must you need to care about any of the characters in order to like the film? Every film is not designed to elicit the same response as when watching Toy Story 3 or Inside Out, you know. The medium is so varied and the possibilities are endless, yet emotionally you seem to desire the same experience over and over again.

There's not even a single funny joke, the entire thing is so juvenile and simply pays to the lowest common denominator. It wasn't made with any intentions other than to promote the app and make it relevant again. And if you don't care about the characters, it is impossible to invest in anything that is going on. Sometimes a complex and twisty plot can make up for it, but it didn't here. It felt like a DTV film through and through, especially considering its animation which while colorful lacked any sort of grit or depth. They simply looked like cartoon birds on a cartoon island. I know that you value different things than me. I value films that actually leave an impact on me rather than putting me to sleep.

Every film is not meant to get you invested in characters. The Angry Birds Movie is like a stand-up show. It is an 80-minute excuse to push the brand and drop joke after joke, but it's fun, and that's all it needs to be. The premise does not require it to be anything different. And there's nothing wrong with that.

It's nice that he's not a vindictive prick like others on here, though.
