Decent film chronicling a writer's search for a story. Well told by Ron Howard - you can always rely on good storytelling from the director of Ransom and Rush. I enjoyed the power battle between Chase and Pollard, and the action is effective - at no time does it feel unauthentic. Unexpectedly, the film ventures into Cast Away territory when I'd wanted it to take more of a Predator route. The acting was satisfactory, though no standouts. Hemsworth has perfected the art of giving a Chris Everyman performance. He is good. He is honest. And he has no personality besides that! Tom Holland was weaker than the rest. Thankfully Brendan Gleason was on hand to take over the character's later years. Sadly, the film will not sit long in the memory. It just isn't engrossing enough. I tuned out a few times, and had to force concentration.
