 Re: The Heat
Better than Bridesmaids and the funniest film in recent memory - at least the most I've consistently laughed in the theater.

 Re: The Heat
The Heat is a great comedy. Its reason for success is simple, it’s just a consistently funny film. The comic timing by Melissa McCarthy, Sandra Bullock and Paul Feig’s direction is on point and never stops. Both the dialog and physical humor hits the mark. An R rating is a big help here, giving its spoken outbursts unpredictability.
For its humor, it’s a nice touch that Bullock and McCarthy’s characters Ashburn and Mullins have layers. It’s clear that a lack of familial emotional love directed them to this point, making their greatest relationship to the job and competence. The Heat understands its characters are people, not joke delivery devices.
In both Feig’s last film Bridesmaids and The Heat, humor is drawn out of making McCarthy’s character aggressive and sexual. However in Bridesmaids that her character would act this way, was a walking gag – due to both her appearance and role in the film. The Heat feels more proud of Mullins’ personality and self-confidence. In Bridesmaids you laugh at McCarthy’s character, in The Heat you laugh with her. It’s an exceptional show put on by McCarthy and the best evidence yet of her ability. But the main reason I preferred The Heat to Bridesmaids is I just felt it the consistently funnier film, feeling as if it has twice as many jokes.
The plot in The Heat doesn’t stand out, but it does the job creating a framework for the jokes and Bullock and McCarthy’s chemistry to show.
The Heat does just about everything you could ask of it. It’s one of the better comedies of the last decade and a great hybrid of acting, writing and directing talent.

 Re: The Heat
What a disappointment!
Not bad per se - - but it just plays so flat. I've been a Sandra Bullock fan from the get go, but here she's clearly slumming it with that TV actress. Some mildly funny bits, but this one goes nowhere slow.
2 out of 5.

The Heat
Formulaic buddy cop flick only with the leads being female as the film's sole differentiator. It offers nothing new and isn't even funny. Bullock's overacting for laughs is distracting while McCarthy's schtick runs thin very quickly (but at least passes the medical for entry-level humour). As always, it is nice to see Bill Burr in a small role, but he is underused. The film gave me the impression that its message is "women can do this job just as well", but it undermines itself. Perhaps the fact that it's a comedy affects the value of its cheer for girl power, but regardless, it shows two incompetent females in a male-dominated workspace.

I guess I never posted a review , but I thought this was ok. Easily Feig's worse, but still not bad.

 Re: The Heat
I think I saw it 4 times theatrically and once since it hit Blu-ray. I wish they'd make a sequel.

 Re: The Heat
It came a few weeks back to Netflix so I checked it out. The setup of the story is good the reveal of the villain is also very good. The chemistry between McCarthy and Bullock are great. The only problem which is now more noticeable is that it never feels that their lives are in danger and Bullock has definitely played this role before. Still a great watch.
